The battle for the vice-presidency on the May 2010 elections makes people hold on to their seat and the top two candidates asking their cardiologists to be always on stand-by.

Binay and Roxas are still battling it out while Noynoy Aquino is reported to be relaxing in Hacienda Luisita puffing his Marlboro classics 2 sticks per minute. Sister Kris Aquino is said to be already packing her things very much ready to occupy the Malacañang Palace together with her entourage. Krissy’s BFF Boy Abunda shared too early today that the youngest Aquino sibling is so enthusiastic to redesign the Palace with her favorite angelic figures.

Other Presidentiables already conceded while Jamby Madrigal is still on hunger strike if the Comelec will not declare her the winner. Same with Nicanor Perlas who stands firm that he can still win as his four volunteers are attesting that their votes are not yet counted by the poll body. But the firmest of them all is Vitaliano Acosta. International reporters caught him saying on an interview that he will not yield and is already readying an electoral protest against Jamby Madrigal for stealing his idea of doing a hunger strike. Second runner-up Erap Estrada is also not yet conceding saying “Di sumusuko ang bida sa pelikula.”

Going back, people are asking how come Binay took on the lead from Roxas and even poised to win the vice-presidency with a 700,000 – 800,000 lead?

The easy answer is Mar Roxas got so comfortable with his early lead on surveys spending the last days of the campaign watching concerts on “The Big Dome” with Korina Sanchez, discounting Jejemon Binay as a big threat. And while watching the concert of “Tears For Fears” it was reported by the “over-attentive bloggers” that Korina Sanchez was “booed” by the crowd when she was caught by the camera saying “jejebusters rock!” She forgot that all those people who were watching the concert were all “jejemons”.

This silent majority with swollen thumbs and the source of all incomprehensible forwarded messages that makes the world a more complicated place took on the cudgels and rallied behind their man Jejemon Binay. Some investigative journalists who are also secret “jejemons” witnessed the group’s silent and clandestine gathering at Club Filipino plotting how to deliver the “jejemon” votes for Mayor Jejemon Binay two days before May 10, 2010.

And so when election day came, the “jejemons” came out sending a barrage of automated text messages to their millions of members: “votE foR Bny jEJeM0NS lolz!~”

The Roxas campaign operatives only knew of this a day after the election. Asked for comment on the sudden surge of Jejemon Binay, Roxas said today,

“From what I understand, a big chunk of the Visayan vote is not yet in. I expect good results from Visayas. Let’s see what happens. I’m keeping the faith.”

Jejemon Binay on the other hand shared his joy and thanked the “jejemons” for believing in him saying that he will soon fully learn texting the “jejemon way.” Here is part of the Jejemon Binay’s official statement:

“ThAnkZ 2 OL d JEjEmOnz fOr~ SUPpOrtNG my cANdIdACY p0Wh.~ i Will NoT fAIL u p0wH. JEjEMON ROCks~ LOlZ!~ “

Influential businessmen, bar association, farmers group and concerned citizens are raising the need to create a parallel manual count on the May 2010 automated elections fearing that the automated election may also become a vehicle of automated fraud.

But the Comelec (Commission on Elections) is resisting the call together with presidential candidates Dick Gordon and Gibo Teodoro. The parallel manual count says the poll body will eat added hours for people who are to work for the elections and at that, the tampering of ballots may create more chaos on the results than regularity.

Both camps we see aims the same goal: a clean and honest elections. And fearing the worse: another election fraud to a national election. But we can see also that they have different ways of doing it.

Poll: Are you in favor of a parallel manual count or not? You can place your vote on the survey form and may also write your reason on the comment form.

Reacting to news reports that Smartmatic-TIM has actually discovered the existence of “ghost” precincts after their survey of polling areas, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) through its spokesperson James Jiminez belied the allegations.

“It was a regular report and it was misinterpreted as ghost precincts because of findings that supposedly so and so number was not found by the team. It’s as simple as that. The report itself does not make any claim that there are missing precincts.”

ABC-CBN/Newsbreak reported that there exist “ghost” precincts in Metro Manila and other parts of the Philippines citing their source as Smartmatic-TIM. The report says that there are 57 polling voting centers that surveyors failed to find.

Smartmatic-TIM surveyors said it had already submitted to Comelec the list and report of missing precincts for proper action.

The present political situation in lieu of the May 2010 elections is becoming more dynamic:Â more positive for others whose ratings are soaring on surveys while scrounging into building a formidable winning formula for others.

And when we say a camp that is scrounging into building a formidable presidential powerhouse for next years’ national polls, what easily comes to mind is the administration party rallying behind the joined forces of the new political party of Lakas-Kampi-CMD which is by the way the biggest political party in the country to date despite the recent defections.

So far, it is Sec. Gilbert Teodoro who has been chosen as their standard-bearer for the presidential post that had sidelined or forced some aspirants to leave the party like cry babies, Bayani Fernando and Hermogenes Ebadane to new a few.

But up to now, the administration party is still looking for that person who will become Teodoro’s running mate for May 2010 to form a perfect winning tandem.  Despite the obvious vast war chest of the administration, the lack of a vice-presidentiable for their campaign up to this moment floats the obvious manifestation of the administration’s political disintegration and desperation.

Some politicians that are being eyed to become Gilbert Teodoro’s running mate are Sen. Bong Revilla, former Senator Tito Sotto, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano and former Optical Media Board Chairman Edu Manzano. Though the administration party said it has been making talks with Sen. Loren Legarda, it did not really flourish as she is now rumored to be going to Villar’s side.

And so, though this may become some non-sense exercise on my part or even an insult on some anti-administration readers to take a poll on this issue for surely many of us if not most of us will not vote for the administration’s highest two candidates; I would still want to ask you guys about your opinion about the fate of Gibo Teodoro.

Who are you rooting to become Sec. Gilbert Teodoro’s running mate on the May 2010 national elections? Your votes could help us give some glimpse into what is going into the mind of the electorate or readers and bloggers as to the administration’s rallying and standing for the Presidential race next year.

By now, many of us have already seen Noynoy Aquino’s political advertisement that has been running on TV stations trying to rival the political ads of his fellow presidentiables.

But what makes Noynoy Aquino’s political ad stand out among its competitors is that this guy who is rallying on a new dawn of politics in a country mired by decades of traditional politicians and dynamics is using the very traditional way of campaign on broadcast media.

With Regine Velasquez singing “Hindi Ka Nag-iisa” (lyrics here) as Noynoy Aquino’s campaign theme song, throngs of celebrities flocked his ad on yellow shirts carrying with them torches in a dramatic fashion.

Like a legendary messiah trying to bring a nation into the Promise Land, the climactic effects of his political advertisement is much measured though by the over-saturated emphasis of TV personalities and celebrities rallying behind him, if not becoming the real faces of the advertisement exposing its lack of depth in terms of what he really intends to do to the nation.

The vagueness, over-saturation of celebrities and mystified approach of Noynoy’s political ad brings me think of two things:

1.  I thought there is already perpetual peace between the two giant media outfit; that the ad is actually a station ID of both GMA and ABS-CBN made manifest by the big stars from both networks rallying on the ads with more exposure than that of the one who is running for the presidency.

2. I am highly expecting that this is the first and the last kind of political ad by Noynoy Aquino that uses this type of strategy with telenovela effect and mystification trying to rival the creation of Tolkien of the Lord of the Rings, or to that effect. Hopefully after this ad, a real political ad will be shown outlining straightforward political reforms, programs and policies that he will advocate and implement once elected into the highest office.

Watch Noynoy Aquino’s political adverstisement here:

So what is your opinion of Noynoy Aquino’s political ad? Any thoughts?

Wow!

Nah. Maybe I have to change that expression suit this post.

Wowowee!

Willie Revillame has been playing hard to get as to the real score whether he will run as a Senator or maybe even a Vice-President (the guy that has floated this idea should have been very lucky enough if he is still alive today) for the May 2010 national elections under the orange banner of the political party of Presidentiable Money, slip of the tongue…rather Manny Villar. (though the Nacionalista Farty has already announced that they are courting or even considering “Papi” to be included in any of their line-ups)

I don’t know what will happen to the Senate if ever Willie “Wil” Revillame decides to run and actually wins! Arrggghhhh! ~Harakiri~

I think we had enough of Lito Lapid in the Senate who has done nothing but to have a rundown of a sacred institution, one time raising his hand and had been counted as supporting the ouster of Manny Villar as a Senate President thinking that what was happening on the floor was the checking of attendance. “Present Ma’am!” Mabuti na ang bopol kaysa ma-markahan ng absent.

Ok let me correct myself on that one. Sacredness of the Senate as an institution depends on who does the talking especially with whoever is up on a weekly privilege speech. Or whoever pisses off the freaking saber tooth tiger in Sen. Miriam Santiago. Or whoever is being investigated on a Senate ethics probe. Or whoever is being grilled on another anomalous and overpriced government project. Or whoever…whatever!

Going back to the gloomy future of maybe having Willie Revillame as an honorable member of the Senate, it strikes me to be a very interesting and funny challenge to the voting public’s capacity to discern and vote for the people who are indeed competent enough to put in laws that would indeed benefit the common good.

The last time I checked on Big G, a senator’s main task is to legislate. Unless Willie Revillame has misunderstood what the real work of a Senator is; understanding it as hosting a noon-time show with all the dancing half-naked ladies on the Senate floor swamping on Senate President Enrile and Jamby Madrigal while doing their own versions of “giling-giling”; and Jinggoy Estrada and Ping Lacson battling for who is the best on “Hep-hep Hooray!”  with the loser as the “real liar”.

Wowowee! That sounds so exciting. But not necessarily sane.

Willie Revillame maybe has totally forgotten his accountability together with his network with the Ultra Stampede that instantly sent the souls of many to another unknown dimension. Though they have been supporting the families of the victims, thus many of them had withdrawn on filing their charges, justice and accountability is not a matter of who has the deeper purse.

Definitely he has the right to run. He can run. He is qualified. But not all qualified person could entail that needed competence.

If Willie runs for a senate seat, I am 80% sure that he will win. But as the King of Comedy Dolphy himself said, if he runs, he will surely win, but it does not mean that it is the right thing to do.

Hep-hep, Hooray!

What do you think guys? Are supporting this thing if ever Willie Revillame runs for a Senate seat? Why? Why not?

I was blog hopping a week ago, a very rare must-do activity for me these past months as workloads, family responsibilities and pressure on my studies are piling up like insurmountable individual mountains that obviously are taking their toll on me; and I had become an instant big fan of ibuprofen capsules and tablets.

And while blog hopping (dropping entrecard credits, commenting on fave blogs and keeping myself updated with what’s hot, abuzz and latest sex scandals around the blogosphere) I always open my Facebook account on another window to check from time to time who are online posting their activities and flaunting that they have bought their BFFs for the whole world to see. As I checked those friends and people who are online on FB chat, I saw Mr. James Jimenez on green light. Wow, time to do some social-climbing, said I.

I sent him a “Hi!” and congratulated the COMELEC or Commission on Elections regarding the Supreme Court decision affirming the legality of the Automated Elections. And he immediately responded with “Thanks!” and “How are you doing?” Wow! This guy is cool, certainly a social media fanatic. And there we had a great conversation about lots of stuffs especially with matters regarding the May 2010 elections and all the election concerns about such a big pivotal event in our nation.

May 2010 elections is only some months from now and with such event so big and instrumental for the present-day Filipinos comes the election concerns of the voting public with the remnants of election cheating and fraud still quite fresh on the consciousness of all except maybe to those who did it. Hello Garci?  One most important feature of next year’s national polls is the use of the agency of the automated system of election that is being hoped for to bring a more honest and credible election together with a more convenient and efficient system.

That is why I took the great opportunity to do an online interview with Mr. James Jimenez, COMELEC’s official Spokesperson, sharing with him some election matters and issues. Hopefully this interview could somewhat bring more information and understanding to voters.

Thank you very much Sir James for giving me the opportunity to interview you!

Elmot: The Supreme Court most recently handed down its decision affirming by a wide margin of majority vote the legality of the Automated Elections for 2010 plus all the pertinent issues raised regarding the Smartmatic-TIM deal as winning bidders. Â What do you people at the COMELEC exactly feel about this decision?

Mr. Jimenez: We are thankful that the Court did not seek to substitute its own judgment for that of the COMELEC in this matter. As the Court pointed out, the COMELEC has the expertise and the mandate to deal with this sort of thing and, absent a clear showing of grave abuse of discretion, the COMELEC should be relied upon to do its job.

Elmot: There are still camps especially groups coming from the civil society who are appealing the decision and are not yet totally convinced that the system could not be hacked or infiltrated either from outside or from inside (Smartmatic having those access to the system) that send some doubts and fears to our voters. Â How do you allay these fears and assure the voters of the efficiency and security of the system?

Mr. Jimenez: The best way to assure everyone is to show how verifiable the results generated by the automated election system will be. Because the results generated by the AES can very easily be verified by a hand count, there is very little incentive to cheat; and because the system is so transparent and the results are immediately reported to the general public, there is very little opportunity for cheating.

Elmot: There have been news of a great influx of groups seeking for partylist accreditation with some politicians branding some of these groups as not really representing a marginalized sector. Â How does the COMELEC screen and evaluate these applications?

Mr. Jimenez: The screening of party-list organizations involves determining whether they truly represent a marginalized sector, and whether they have actually done so during their existence. We evaluate these claims by actually going into the field and conducting our own investigations into the history and background of the organization.

Elmot: It was raised that the COMELEC is on a very tight schedule and might run out of time that could result to some problems especially with the preparations and training of personnel for the new system. Â On what stage is the COMELEC exactly right now and will it meet its deadlines and target dates?

Mr. Jimenez: The COMELEC will meet its deadlines. Right now, we are completing the site survey – that’s where we check all the 80,136 polling precinct sites to determine their suitableness. At the same time, we are well into the source code review being undertaken in partnership with an international certification authority. Also in parallel to these two major activities, we are preparing the legal framework of the elections and procuring election supplies.

Elmot: In line with training, organizations of teachers are saying that they are afraid that they may not be well-trained with the use of the new system for the upcoming elections. Â What is the COMELEC’s program as regards to the training of teachers and people who will be manning the elections at the precinct levels?

Mr. Jimenez: The machines are easy to operate. I can write down the instructions on a single post-it sheet. Fear of the unknown and unfamiliar is a common reaction. Fortunately, those who are afraid soon see that there is nothing to fear.

Elmot: One of the biggest issue when it comes to elections is cheating especially the sensitive issue of the Garci Scandal. Â What efforts are the commission doing to ensure that the previous election scandal/would never again occur?

Mr. Jimenez: Automation is the best defense against dagdag-bawas of the sort that Garci was accused of.

Elmot: From the COMELEC’s end, what are the responsibilities of voters aside from practicing their right to vote to ensure a clean and honest election come May 2010?

Mr. Jimenez: Vigilance. Do not only be a good voter, help keep others honest also. Don’t sell your vote, and tell others not to sell theirs.

Elmot: On a lighter note. Â You are one of a few public officials who is very active and engaging in the social networks especially Facebook. Â How has the social media helped you as a public servant and the programs and efforts of the COMELEC?

Mr. Jimenez: Social media is a critical element of our campaign to reach out to voters. It enables us to connect with the general public in a forum that they are comfortable with. It breaks down old barriers of formality and protocol, allowing a more candid and fruitful exchange of ideas.

Elmot:Â Any last words of assurance and encouragement to all readers and voters who are obviously very vigilant as to the developments to participate on the upcoming national polls?

Mr. Jimenez: Do not waver in your commitment to seeing a truly automated 2010 elections. It will not be an easy transition, but it will be worth it.

How about you guys? Any election concerns and issues that you want to raise especially to the COMELEC? Do you put your trust that with this automated election for May 2010, election cheating and fraud could be effectively prevented from happening?

The meat of the matter? Mr. Conrado de Quiros’ most recent columns expressing his great dismay over so many presidentiables who are so overeager to have the presidency that makes them most unqualified for that post according to his standards. Thus, for him, after all the so many years of seeing the uncontrolled greed of public officials for power and the plundering of public wealth especially from the present occupant of the Palace, the only one that truly “deserves” the presidency is someone who does not really pine and die for it.

And the obvious: Â Noynoy Aquino is the one who truly deserves the Presidency being the only person who is not dying to become the next President of this nation; seemingly anointed by the marriage of heaven and history while the whole of cosmos has conspired since August 5 for him to deliver the change we so direly need.

That simply means that Mar Roxas, Jamby Madrigal, Manny Villar, Gilbert Teodoro, Jejomar Binay, Nicky Perlas, Bayani Fernando, Erap Estrada and others do not deserve to have the Presidency. As simple as that. Because they are overeager.

But how do we really know someone is overeager? When he goes around the country to makes himself known by the people and know all the people’s concerns at the same time? When he shows advertisements? When a politician already expressed his desire to become the next president so that the people will have the precious benefit of knowing him early on? When he tries to set up his political machinery, gather volunteers, raise funds and set up camps and quarters? But that does not necessarily follow as far as I know.

I guess de Quiros was way too simplistic or even mystical (though he said he does not believe on mystical affairs on his column today) on his understanding and qualification for someone who is alone deserving of the presidency. If you want to have it, then you should want it says an old adage.

De Quiros’ view and standard raises a few problems for me at least.

First, those politicians who are not overeager does not necessarily entail of their capacity and competence to become the next President nor of their high moral standing give us the food to eat on the table and the significant improvement on the lives of many Filipinos. As what Angela Stuart-Santiago’s opinion regarding Conrado’s pushing of Noynoy to take up the presidential race because he is the only one “deserving” the position, that change in our country “won’t happen just because you aren’t a liar, a cheat, or a thief.” Guess what, Conrado had a field day when Pres. Cory Aquino assumed the presidency lashing her decisions and policies as a President bordering on a question of competency and expressing dismay. That was the same whole sentiment of Mr. Roces who actually was the person that gathered the more than 1 million votes for Cory to run against the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos. If Noynoy wins, certainly Conrado will have lots of things to look forward to on his columns.

Second, over eagerness could also mean passion and burning zeal for something that would certainly sustain one’s work, designation or responsibility. I am quite afraid that if someone is elected to become our next President just because he is the only guy in town not wanting the position so badly, he will just become a working president on moments of ecstasy and become too lazy upon realizing that he did not want so big a responsibility in the first place.

And third, this broad unqualified standard for over eagerness could not just be simply equated to sheer political or material greed that should instantly bring us unfounded fear and dislike of some of the presidentiables.

Well, I am not overeager too for the presidential position. I guess I have to file my certificate of candidacy come November 2009.

Korina Sanchez said that Conrado de Quiros owes Mar Roxas an apology. He just shrugged this off saying:

“I have no control over how people feel about the things I write. People who ask me to apologize will have to fall in line. [Sanchez] should fall in line and take a number … I would apologize if I was wrong. This is not one of those times.”

Now, there’s the rub.

Do you agree with Conrado de Quiros’ standard for choosing Noynoy Aquino as the one who deserves the Presidency being the only one who is not overeager for it? Do you think if elected as President, Noynoy’s being not one of those overeager for the post could bring us into some unchartered territory and problems?

Comment here and join in the discussion, I am anyway overeager to hear your opinions.

I want to get straight to the point, without the usual introductions and my usual story lines:Â Why are so many presidentiables are working their ass out just to become the next President of the Philippines?

This is something that I cannot fathom when I am seeing in the television, reading in the papers and listening to the radio how difficult and complicated a President’s life is.Â

When I was small, I used to dream and act as a President on one of my playing corners. But growing up, the presidency is not as easy as a child’s fantasy and role-playing games.

Here are some reasons why you should not run for the Presidency of the republic and even more become the President:

1. Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism or PCIJ published a report  saying that Gloria Arroyo spent at least a staggering P5 billion on her 2004 presidential campaign. On line with this billions of peso figure, Presidentiable Manny Villar opined during an interview by Reuter  that someone planning to run for the presidency should have at least P1 billion on his/her pocket. Without that, presidentiables should just beg out of the race.Â

Anyone who has at least a billion-peso bank account? Kindly raise your hand. Oopsss, Manny Pacquiao raised his hand. Am I seeing Joc-Joc Bolante’s hand?

2. Becoming a President, you are only set to receive P60,000 monthly as your salary as President, smaller compared to the salary of a junior executive in the private sector. And our President is like a beggar compared to that of its US counterpart. The US President is earning 3,000% times higher than the President of the Philippines, receiving $400,000 annually. Now, this does not give me enough reason to be at the highest post of the land after spending at least P1billion on the campaign trail.

3. Being the President, you will live your 6 years with all the cameras targeting your every moves and hush. Probing eyes and professional paparazzi are surely set to trail by you when you go to hospitpal for a boob job. Plus, the usual attacks of opposition forces and activists, unruly government officials and New People’s Army (NPA), MILF and Abu Sayaff. If you can’t even handle your nagging in-laws, neighbors, pesky officemates and annoying blogging buddies, the Presidency is a no-no.

4. How about solving all the problems of the country and being blamed for failures? Have no rest on weekends and being always on-call 24/7?

5. And how about being judged by history?

Of course there are lots of other reasons that we could still enumerate here; and there are also so many reasons too why our Presidentiables are still aiming for the highest position in the land despite of everything I enumerated. But for me, I would still stick to my gun that power, prestige (and maybe, having all the means to get so rich from bribes and corruption) are not enough to convince me to aim for the Presidency.

I guess Manny Pacquiao can now run for the Presidency having billions of pesos already on his bank account eh.

What to you think are the reasons why it is a politician’s ultimate goal to become the President of the Republic? Despite all the things I enumerated, what do you thing are the rewards one gets on becoming the President of this country?
