The new president is not only defying security protocols but more so conventions compared to the notorious former president who is now addressed as the honorable lady from the second district of Pampanga.

Only a few days into office under the tight watch of media and scrutiny of the public, President Noynoy Aquino is a complete turn-around from Gloria Arroyo’s leadership, character and management, making everyday full of surprises and added extra work his security personnel.

While GMA loved to flaunt her arrogance and clout to power through lavish spending of government coffers on so many unnecessary matters like travels abroad with the whole pack of her die-hard loyalists and their families joining the carnival (which by the way many now are joining the administration to save their perks) and expensive and gluttonous escapades; Noynoy Aquino chose to live a very simple and humble lifestyle despite being the most powerful man in the country. His cost-cutting measures and frugal administration was best observed during the inauguration party in the Palace.

During his inaugural address, Noynoy Aquino lambasted all politicians who arrogantly display their power by the use of “wang-wangs” or sirens defying traffic rules just to escape the notorious congested major thoroughfares. This arrogance that perpetuates the great divide between the public servant and the public to be served has been in existence since time immemorial that people thought they just have to live with it and live with contempt against their leaders. GMA and all her cohorts during her term were great examples of these power trippers on our roads; sirens howling the streets, black cars with black tainted windows, a throng of security escorts always ready to shove your car to the nearest ditch and motorists jammed for hours flashing their dirty fingers on the convoys.

But Noynoy as president is the opposite: he obeys traffic rules, do not use sirens and have to wake up even earlier in order not to be late for his engagements. By this example, many people even voluntarily surrendered their sirens to authorities after seeing the President walk his talk, while people only imitated Gloria Arroyo and her dark knights’ ways during her term to multiply many more acts of crime against basic human principles and self-respect.

People were first shocked but ultimately murmured, “it still works” in the Philippines.

But maybe the most shock comes from media people who had been following President Aquino’s new administration.

GMA’s administration was filled with scandals and corruption issues (to the delight of the press as they need not to look anywhere else for an evening headline news) that she has built towering and impenetrable walls for the media not to have any access to her; a government naïve and deaf and mute to the cries of its people. She is even more notorious with her disgust with the media showing no temerity when irritated. To save her face (to no avail as shown by her negative popularity ratings) her people were always at the receiving end of criticisms and most of the time doing the apologies for their boss. But we know better of course.

On the other hand, Noynoy Aquino is very open and accessible to media. During the first days into office of two of his cabinet officials, a bad signal and mishandling of media people by Br. Armin Luistro and Edwin Lacierda was seen. A total opposite of GMA, the new President was himself the one who asked for apologies and understanding for his new cabinet secretaries!

A long litany of many more differences between Aquino and Arroyo can be discussed the whole day, but these differences are not only for the sake of showing the distinct identity between the two but more importantly the clear peculiarity that the public sees of what a real public servant is from an arrogant self-serving public servant; the difference of black and white and not spreading grey areas on leadership and bureaucracy as GMA has perfected. The distinction only furthers the general public sentiment that we can still have a leader who can follow the most basic of laws in solidarity with each and every citizen to restore their sense of dignity and say, “it still works.”

GMA said that history will alone judge her, and by now judgment has already been rendered on her by history justly. The courts will soon follow.

People at the Malacañang confirmed the reports that a manicurist of our dear and most loving President Gloria Arroyo has been appointed as a board member of PAG-IBIG Housing Fund making people wonder if they are to scratch their head or applaud the move.

American citizen Gary Olivar defended he appointment saying,

“Ang kanya pong kakatawanin is precisely yung maliliit na empleyado na siyang nangangailangan ng serbisyo ng Pag-IBIG (What she will represent are precisely those small employees who need the services of Pag-IBIG). Let us not hold her lowly status against her.”

The name of the manicurist is Anita “Nitz” Carpon and is said to be receiving a staggering monthly salary of P130,000! Pardon me but, WTF!?

Jarius Bondoc of Philippine Star first spilled the beans and further said that Arroyo’s gardener named Armando Macapagal on the other hand was appointed as deputy of the Luneta Park Administration.

Bondoc wrote on his column,

“Professionals among Malacañang’s housekeeping staff are outraged. Not only did Gloria Macapagal Arroyo appoint her personal manicurist to the board of trustees of Pag-IBIG Housing Fund. She also earlier named her gardener as deputy of the Luneta Park Administration. Both postings are improper sinecures, Palace aides murmur.”

“A third insider doubts the two appointees’ credentials. Macapagal supposedly landscapes Malacañang lawns but does not manage people. Carpon is not known for financial expertise to oversee the multibillion-peso housing mutual fund of all employees. Nicknamed Nitz, she is often scolded by Arroyo for mismatching presidential handbags and shoes.”

Generals appointed as ambassadors and cabinet secretaries and general managers, now a manicurist and a gardener.

Maybe the manicurist knows how many dead toe nails Gloria has and GMA was so afraid for this confidential matter of national security to get leaked in the media?

Maybe the cute Gloria is the one who badly needs a psychological test.

What is happening to this country for God’s sake!!!

Don’t know what word to say, good thing a blogging buddy taught me a word of the day, “Crapalicious!”

Urban Planner Felino Palafox Jr. has been saying the same thing during the 70’s on a World Bank funded study about urban planning for the Metro Manila area.

The same things that our present government officials are presenting as the surefire solutions on preventing another devastating calamity from happening right at the heart of the Metro:Â not allowing houses and industries on river banks, relocating and sending some people back to their respective provinces, dredging of the rivers, clearing of waterways and floodways, and more ( and more sometimes may also mean they don’t exactly what to do.)

Yes, the man who has spearheaded many development projects in Dubai already saw these things almost 30 years ago, but many especially those in government and private sectors with interests on real estate development turned a blind eye on an issue that indeed eventually led to a devastating catastrophe claiming more than 300 lives and almost P10 billion in damages!

The Blame Game is On!

As what Palafox said, this is not the act of God but rather our sin of omission. Indeed, God must have been very pissed off on his throne in the heavens for always being blamed by man on disastrous events out of their own making.

On the Senate inquiry regarding the recent calamity under Climate Change Committee Chair Loren Legarda, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Lito Atienza blamed the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) for allowing fish pens, factories and pollution on Laguna Lake as the main culprits why many parts of the Metro Manila, Laguna and Rizal were flooded up to this day. And he also assailed all the Mayors for not strictly following the law regarding waste management on their respective cities and municipalities. And his solution? Sue them in court for gross negligence and for not following the law and put up a shame list.

This was also seconded by the tigress Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago who never failed to always redirect an issue in order for the Puno Brothers to be always grilled as the culprits for all our misery as a nation.

But do they really have the balls to do it in a nation where the dynamics of governance is patronage politics and the mechanics of law and order is reward and punishment? And the spirit and the letters of the law are all dependent on Einstein’s theory of relativity: the interpretation and administration of the law is dependent on who signs the check?

Local Version of Le Cirque Dinner?

JP Lopez of Malaya posted on Ellen Tordesillas’ blog the lavish, senseless and extravagant celebration of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) on September 30, 2009 on its main office in Balara, Quezon City for its celebration of its 36th anniversary while the whole nation is under the state of calamity and thousands of families were all hungry, cold and sick on their flooded homes and communities.

A source said LWUA ordered 500 reservations for cocktails and 250 reservations for a seven-course dinner buffet from Henry’s Catering Service. A check with menu showed the catering cost about P200,000 (at P510++, P530++ to P610++ per head). The celebration, complete with a live band, was held at the LWUA main office on Katipunan avenue, Balara, Quezon City, which was one of the worst hit by Ondoy floods. The menu consisted of baked mussels with olive oil and garlic as appetizer, “sinigang” soup, and roast pig. The main course included “kare-kare,” chicken barbeque, squid “salpicado,” spinach with chicken and garlic, “pancit” sotanghon (or canton guisado) and steamed jasmine rice. Desserts included fresh seasonal fruit platter and “buko pandan” salad. Assorted sodas, “guinumis” and home-brewed iced tea were also served. It was not yet known if Prospero Pichay, LWUA chairman and administration ally, shouldered the expenses.

And guess what, the President joined the Roman gluttony at 9:00 to 11:00 PM.

Anyone who got the balls to get back at these Romans?

Gloria’s False Accomplishments Proven by Ondoy

Assail me if you want. But as I saw it, the government was obviously unprepared and incompetent as to its handling of the calamity and even on its preparation. For heaven’s sake 10 rubber boats for the whole of Metro Manila?! Kris Aquino may have been a better head of the NDCC and DSWD, and this time I am not kidding when I say it.

Maybe they are still savoring on their palates the expensive dishes they had on their dinner at Le Cirque that they have forgotten they are already here in the country to serve their people.

No need to explain or narrate everything here for you have surely seen it for yourselves as you watch the television, read the newspapers and browse over online news coverage.

Turning back the hands of time, this is what our dear President arrogantly declared on her most recent State of the Nation Address regarding disaster preparedness and all:

International authorities have taken notice that we are safer from environmental degradation and man-made disasters.

As a country in the path of typhoons and in the Pacific Rim of Fire, we must be prepared as the latest technology permits to anticipate natural calamities when that is possible; to extend immediate and effective relief when it is not. The mapping of flood- and landslide-prone areas is almost complete. Early warning, forecasting and monitoring systems have been improved, with weather tracking facilities in Subic, Tagaytay, Mactan, Mindanao, Pampanga.

We have worked on flood control infrastructure like those for Pinatubo, Agno, Laoag, and Abucay, which will pump the run off waters from Quezon City and Tondo flooding Sampaloc. This will help relieve hundreds of hectares in this old city of its age old woe.

Patuloy naman iyong sa Camanava, dagdag sa Pinatubo, Iloilo, Pasig-Marikina, Bicol River Basin, at mga river basin ng Mindanao.

The victims of typhoon Frank in Panay should receive their long-overdue assistance package.

And when Ondoy came and so was Peping, they have just proven the false claims of the President on her long array of accomplishments…and only once proven that GMA is one of the worst disaster this nation has ever had for many years now.

Indeed, the international community has noticed…noticed the opposite.

I once again ask:Â Do they have the balls (Sec. Atienza, Sec. Teodoro, or even Darna and Big Brother, etc) to actually make all those responsible either because of negligence, gross disregard of the laws and incompetence be sent to languish behind bars or suspended from their posts?

My answer for now is: weather weather lang yan. But I still pray that they will do what they say…this time around.

Mike Arroyo, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA) and Mike Arroyo comprise the Arroyo dynasty of corruption that has pocket millions of pesos on their networth or SALN.

I really hate moments when relatives and uninvited guests (especially those who will introduce themselves as long lost relatives that you will meet for the first time) probe me and wheel the whole conversation during one of the most special days of the year to me by greeting a “happy birthday” and saying “you are totally like your father” after handing over to me their gifts of multi-colored towels and picture frame just like what I am always receiving during exchange gifts on my school’s Christmas party. Now I’ve got a whole collection of all the colors of towels from the darkest hues to neon green.

It is not because I hate my father that makes me flare up this way but basically because I am not my father. We are just totally different. I am a new person. I much more handsome than him!

But on this particular case, I think the old saying that the fruit is the same as its tree holds true.

Corrupted Macapagal-Arroyo Son

After getting caught with his pants off on national television under the wit and proving prowess of Professor Winnie Monsod about his questionable SALN (Statement of Assest, Liabilities and Networth) and his U.S. Property worth millions, Mikey Arroyo has resorted to singing different incoherent hymns in order to find that elusive justification to the obvious acts of perjury and graft and corruption.

Asked about why the sudden jump on his networth of P5 million in 2002 before he joined Congress to a whooping P76 million after a year and P99 million in 2008 (which is by the way an almost 1000% increase in just 6 years considering the global financial downturn that has swept down the richest of nations and people) and how he acquired such an expensive U.S. Property, here are his litanies of lies:

Mikey Arroyo said that the $1.32 million beachfront property in the U.S. was not his; then he said that his wife owns it (the property was transferred under his wife’s name); then the property actually is owned by the Beach Way Park LLC (for which he is one of the stockholders of the company); the he accumulated such a big wealth in just a span of six years because of the gifts they received from their wedding in 2002; then said that he received a great amount of campaign contributions from donors in 2004 and 2007; and then reasoned out most recently that his wife came from a wealthy clan but quelled speculations that he is a gold-digger; and that he filed for an amended SALN at the Office of the Ombudsman but the same office actually denied of receiving such an amended SALN from Mikey; then…then…then…

Mikey Arroyo fired back at detractors who still refuse to believe his long lists of justifications saying,

“to those who refuse to listen, the issue is unexplainable.”

Oh I see.

Corrupted Macapagal-Arroyo Parents

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo may have been considered “the luckiest bitch” in town by Joey Salceda but she always run out of luck as to not being linked to the exposés of grand schemes of corruptions. From the Fertilizer Fund Scam, Macapagal Boulevard Scam (the most expensive stretch of road in the world, a record-breaker for the Philippines! Yahoo, another Guinness!), NBN-ZTE Deal, Northrail Project, Palace Bribery, Quedancor Swine Scam, Hello Garci Scandal, and many more that always pin down her name to be at the receiving end of corruption and kickback. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s SALN or networth on 2002 was standing at P66.7 million but that has exponentially jumped to P171.8 in 2008 in just a span of 6 years! Beating even the number of our annual GDP and that of the stock market.

And not to lose his share of the loot is the kingpin of the present Arroyo dynasty Mr. FG or Mike Arroyo also known as the infamous Jose Pidal. He has been embroiled on countless corruption scandals and allegations on numerous government projects that my neighbor has given him a moniker as Mike-kickback Arroyo.

Of course, the Malacaňang people will always come to the rescue for GMA and her whole gang of corrupted kindred. Sporting the usual poker face they were trained to in front of the media. They come to the rescue for their boss by painting her as someone who is immaculate as snow. And if we still not buy their counter-arguments? Here is what they say:

“What is important is that we believe the truth and we are not getting tired in explaining the truth”.

Ooopss, I heard the sound of the cash register.

Macapagal-Arroyo’s Dynasty of Corruption

Coming with the obvious conclusion that these are despicable acts of obvious corruption if not plunder, not only by one person but by the tandem of a father-mother-son is not really a very taxing exercise for the Filipinos. It is not some rocket science or a legal parlance that only a few men understands. Sheer street smarts and if one practices that rare virtue of honesty are all that are needed to see the “red flags” of corruption. Inquirer.net interviewed anti-corruption agents who said that these “red flags” could be easily detected with politicians starts saying,

“having married a really wealthy spouse, transferring property to spouses or listing them under corporations, taking out “loans” from relatives for which there are no paper trials, owning unprofitable business with substantial assets and racking up increasing liabilities that cannot be paid for a public official’s meager salary.”

Mike Arroyo, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Mikey Arroyo.

It is all too obvious.

Unless if you are Merceditas Gutierrez.

Ooopss, I heard once again the sound of the cash register.

Do you believe that GMA, Mike Arroyo and Mikey Arroyo has amassed millions of pesos indicated through the sudden jump of their networth, even beating the stock market growth year-by-year since 2002 be attributed to corruption?

I want to get straight to the point, without the usual introductions and my usual story lines:Â Why are so many presidentiables are working their ass out just to become the next President of the Philippines?

This is something that I cannot fathom when I am seeing in the television, reading in the papers and listening to the radio how difficult and complicated a President’s life is.Â

When I was small, I used to dream and act as a President on one of my playing corners. But growing up, the presidency is not as easy as a child’s fantasy and role-playing games.

Here are some reasons why you should not run for the Presidency of the republic and even more become the President:

1. Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism or PCIJ published a report  saying that Gloria Arroyo spent at least a staggering P5 billion on her 2004 presidential campaign. On line with this billions of peso figure, Presidentiable Manny Villar opined during an interview by Reuter  that someone planning to run for the presidency should have at least P1 billion on his/her pocket. Without that, presidentiables should just beg out of the race.Â

Anyone who has at least a billion-peso bank account? Kindly raise your hand. Oopsss, Manny Pacquiao raised his hand. Am I seeing Joc-Joc Bolante’s hand?

2. Becoming a President, you are only set to receive P60,000 monthly as your salary as President, smaller compared to the salary of a junior executive in the private sector. And our President is like a beggar compared to that of its US counterpart. The US President is earning 3,000% times higher than the President of the Philippines, receiving $400,000 annually. Now, this does not give me enough reason to be at the highest post of the land after spending at least P1billion on the campaign trail.

3. Being the President, you will live your 6 years with all the cameras targeting your every moves and hush. Probing eyes and professional paparazzi are surely set to trail by you when you go to hospitpal for a boob job. Plus, the usual attacks of opposition forces and activists, unruly government officials and New People’s Army (NPA), MILF and Abu Sayaff. If you can’t even handle your nagging in-laws, neighbors, pesky officemates and annoying blogging buddies, the Presidency is a no-no.

4. How about solving all the problems of the country and being blamed for failures? Have no rest on weekends and being always on-call 24/7?

5. And how about being judged by history?

Of course there are lots of other reasons that we could still enumerate here; and there are also so many reasons too why our Presidentiables are still aiming for the highest position in the land despite of everything I enumerated. But for me, I would still stick to my gun that power, prestige (and maybe, having all the means to get so rich from bribes and corruption) are not enough to convince me to aim for the Presidency.

I guess Manny Pacquiao can now run for the Presidency having billions of pesos already on his bank account eh.

What to you think are the reasons why it is a politician’s ultimate goal to become the President of the Republic? Despite all the things I enumerated, what do you thing are the rewards one gets on becoming the President of this country?

203 victims of abduction; 1,010 victims of torture; 1,017 victims of extrajudicial killings; 201 victims of enforced disappearances.Â
Â
These are the reported numbers of souls who suffered from the hands of the Philippine Military who should have been protecting our divine rights of freedom and liberty enshrined not only on our constitution but also in the basic humanity of each and everyone of us. These are the number of souls who had seen the glimpse of hell with most of them not able to see another daylight with their loved ones. And many more souls are still searching and crying out for the elusive justice to be rendered on perpetrators of such brutal display of arrogance and power.
Â

This Is Not Something New
Â
Fil-Am Melissa Roxas recounted yesterday during a press conference in Los Angeles how she was abducted and tortured of what she believed to be military agents in Tarlac on May 19. She was constantly being interrogated, beaten, asked to sign some documents and tried to suffocate her by pulling plastic bags over her head. When one of her tormentors told her that they are just mere “instruments of God” for rebels to return into the fold of law, she said that “that my God does not torture people”.
Â
Roxas’ experience of walking into the valley of death is not something new at all; it is but just once again an affirmation of the lingering ill of a grave cancer in our country. The tumor that has once been sporadic instances of human rights abuses on remote barrios and villages has grown into a full-blown ferocious beast that devours our country and challenges our harmonious living under the banner of freedom and democracy as a nation.Â
Â
Until today, those faceless people who were tortured and simply vanished in the middle of the night during the time of the dictator are still crying out for justice. Hundreds and thousands of them perished with hands on their backs and wounds of their hearts.Â
Â
In 2007, UN Special Rapporteur for Extra Judicial Killings Phillip Alston reported that the Philippines government is to be blamed for all these human rights abuses and atrocities.
Â

A Government in Denial
Â
With this latest issue of human rights abuse capturing the attention of all nations, the military has once again dismissed these allegations saying, “Nothing of that sort happened. We already asked all units in the area and we found that they have nothing to do with that.” Wow, this is like my classic version of lying in exchange of a fake gold ring. And other operatives of the government are calling Roxas’ story as “stage-managed.”
Â
Remembered what the former Secretary of Justice Raul Gonzales said on the Alston Report? He lambasted it with his usual gift of sarcasm and senselessness unheard of from a government official, calling it baseless, written with much bias against the government and full of unsubstantiated facts that tries to intervene on the sovereignty of our nation. He even called Phillip Alston nothing but a “muchacho” of the United Nations, so why believe him anyway. A rare virus from the jungles of Africa has surely gotten of the sanity of this old man. I am just so thankful that he is already out of the helm of raping Lady Justice with his sarcasm.
Â
I am getting tired of this usual gobbledygook that all the spokespersons of this inutile government has to say to appease the clamor for accountability. I have so much already with the usual twisting of the arms of justice and a new sex scandal (Hayden Kho and Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, wahahaha!) to divert our attention to constantly tune in to YouTube. The usual path of justice has to be taken to the next level and torturers, murderers and all their demi-gods should be thrown into the burning pit of damnation.  Â
Â

An Eye For An Eye, A Tooth For A Tooth!
Â
Melissa Roxas through her US-based lawyer Atty. Arnedo Valera is going to file a case in the US Federal Court and seek damages against the Philippine government. They are also set to file a complaint in the US State Department and the United Nations. “I want the world to know what happened because the Philippine government and military should not get away with what they did to me,” she said.
Â
If this case therefore progresses in the United States and gives Roxas the justices she is asking from the court, it will send a chilling effect on the present administration and the judicial system of our country. First, being an affirmation and condemnation of the obvious rampant human rights abuses that this government is primarily sponsoring; and in effect harboring fugitives and murderers on its fold and paycheck. When the federal court and the US State Department finds the Philippine government guilty over this particular human rights abuse, it will also drive a stronger US and international pressure to the government to act against human rights abuse. And second, this case could render our justice system and law enforcement agencies as nothing but kangaroo courts and rubber stamps. Then our government will have a dose of its medicine.
Â
Roxas’ battle here could only affirm that our very own government could never protect its own people rather, even have all the means and chance to hurt the freedom and rights of its citizens. I am pretty sure that this is not the kind of nation that our founding Fathers and our martyrs died for and this is not the kind of nation that our heroes sacrificed their liberty for, unless you are reading a DepEd funded history book. I think that they sacrificed their lives for more people to live, and they offered their own liberty for the rights and freedom of the next generations to flourish; and of course for more bloggers to write without fear or hesitation and tweet to their hearts’ content.
Â
Well, if these torturers and murderers think that they are “instruments of God”, then maybe they should check first who really the God on that side of the fence is.

Do you think that filing a case against the Philippine government in the US Federal Court, US State Department and the United Nations could solve the problem of human rights abuses in our country? Any suggested remedies to make all these torturers, murderers and demi-gods hold accountable?

Don’t worry, my title post is actually right. “Don’t vote on 2010…”, but if i may continue, all those f**king congressmen who railroaded the amendment of the constitution by filing a bill to convene a constitutional assembly without recognizing the Senate as a separate voting entity, while everyone was still fixed on their computers watching Katrina and Hayden’s sex scandals.

Now I am angry!

Don’t Vote for all these Con-Ass Holes for God’s Sake!

So guys, while others would be rallying tomorrow converging at Makati City to protest in one loud voice the blatant act of our congressmen of not recognizing the voice of those people, maybe let us all also do our part too… I personally make an appeal to all friends and strangers.

Mark the faces of all the traitors and come 2010, never ever put these con-ass holes on your list of officials to be voted for the next couple of years. Now, this no more a civic duty of putting away friends from getting addicted to making sex scandals as I appealed to all of you on my list of influential bloggers, but this is one divine duty that would make its mark today and on many generations to come.

Here is the list of all the Judases on the congress who voted for the convening of the constituent assembly while we were all asleep. Memorize their faces, and maybe, one of them is your beloved congressman.

For sure, some of them will jump off ship in the coming days because of the strong clamor of the public of throwing all these weeds to the burning pit of hell. But guys, let me also remind you…when they jump off ship and become somewhat like an angel; withdrawing their names and sponsorship of the Con-Ass bill, appearing on interviews crusading against the same bill that has fattened their pocket; and becoming maybe an opposition or a silent dissedent; let me remind you: DON’T TRUST THEM! They are still wolves under their as white as snow sheep skin. If they had betrayed us once (impeachment complaints against GMA, where they received bribes from the palace on paper bags) and twice (by passing the bill calling for the Con-Ass while we were all busy watching the sex scandal), they can betray us many more times in our lifetime. Let us all kick their hairy ass come May 2010!

Remember: DON’T VOTE FOR THEM, come May 2010 elections. Tell all your family members, relatives, friends. Let us make them see you the real boss is!

An Appeal to Everyone, No To Con-Ass! Silence No More!

On to you now guys. So on the list of the congressmen who voted for the Con-Ass just by the mere shouting of Aye and Nay, is your own included on the list? What is your take on the issue of the lower congress passing a bill calling for a Constituent Assembly not recognizing the Senate as a separate chamber? What are we to do to all these congressmen, would you still vote for them come May 2010 elections? Be heard!

Bloggista’s comment (thanks by the way) on my April Fool’s post made me also think: which is of greater probability to happen, me, winning the 6/49 lotto jackpot of 240 million pesos or GMA stepping down from the Presidency making a graceful (yet full of shame) exit? I studied probability way back in my Statistics class. Though most of the topics in that subject were difficult for my math-aversive mind, our young, hot and energetic teacher made us never fail in attendance…at least in attendance.

Though my post was not really to fool readers or mislead them, I think I did at some point iwht some. However, my real point of posting that was to stir, especially in the end part of the blog, of which really is probable and possible among the two abovementioned difficult choices. I would also want to at least taste even just in fantasy and daydream the day that GMA heads off to the fire exit when the burning greed and corruption inside her administration is already out of control and the Filipino people are already coming in to extinguish it forever.

240 Million Lotto Jackpot

According to the Philippine Lottery and Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), only a single lucky person won the 240 million jackpot, the biggest in PCSO history last March 30, 2008. This lucky guy/gal made a bet with the winning number combinations in small betting outlet in Quezon City. Today, he is an instant multi-millionaire! Damn! Spend it wisely bro…and use it to help other people and if you have crossed on to this blog, send me a mail or give a call. hehehe. It therefore tells everyone that I am not the winner, maybe in the near future (crossed fingers).

Back to my discussion here. Of millions of people lining up like ants on procession on thousands of betting stations all over the country, what is the odds that you could be the lucky one to take home the whole lot? Well, I searched the net for some math wizards for an answer and here is what I got. The probability of winning the jackpot in a 6/49 lottery draw is 1/13,983,816! It is like winning against more or less 16% of the whole Philippine population! It is like waking up one early morn and voila, you already own one big corporation! It is like all graces and luck from all sides of the galaxy has converged on your winning ticket.

The probability is really slim and I must say some mystical powerful force, call it grace, luck or simply fortunate coincidence is at work at that. And this powerful force is not always at work with and for everyone. You may bet everyday for the rest of your life but there is no assurance for you to bring home the much-coveted jackpot. The total money that you placed on your bet could have amounted to the minimum jackpot if added for sure. And that is the real jackpot.

Gloria Arroyo Heading the Exit

Before the controversial and cheating-tainted election of May 2004, GMA publicly announced with her queer smile with her rodent-like front teeth, her “sincere” decision of not running anymore for the Presidential post. This she said as her own contribution and sincere act to attain unity and reconciliation in the country after the much-troubled transition from the ousting of Erap through the so-called People Power II, that the leaders of these movement now judge as a “shame” and failure. But the gentle breeze change into a public storm signal when GMA decided to run for the highest post of the land and cheated her way up on top. She expressed a rehearsed apology in the television with her face shown like a widow who killed her own husband to get a multi-million insurance. And for all of us, the story goes; of lies, deceit, corruption and scam here and there happening under her cloak of dictatorship.

The question is: What is the odds that Gloria will step down from the Presidency and head through the gates of judgment? This question is a very difficult and tight one to analyze and at the same time ponder for us to arrive at some approximate if not accurate answer.

Well, looking at GMA in accordance to her previous actions, words and decisions, one arrives at an only definite answer that she is a person who can never be trusted. Simply put it this way, one can never put his/her safety on her hands. Moreover, trust her. Her lies, corruption, scams and deception to her very own circle of influence and allies and especially to the public is a testament to the fact that we are not assured that first, she will step down if the clamor of people and street protests reach its peak and second, she will step down after her term on 2010.

Rallies and protests, investigations and impeachment cases are failures if the main criterion for success is their goal for her to step down as soon as possible. Every branch of our puppet government is under her mercy (except the Senate, but at to this point, we can see that they are helpless and losing their ground on most issues despite a public satisfaction on their performance). The Supreme Court is hers, the Lower House of Congress is hers, the Military, the Police Force, the Local Government Units (LGUs), the Vice-President, the Commission on Elections, the oligarchs…what is else can one person so small just as tall as a water dispenser yet so powerful could ask for to have absolute hold of her seat? She will not step down before 2010. Fact.

How about after the 2010. This is even a more difficult one to answer for what we can only do is project and treat the issue like Nostradamus consulting his crystal ball. With the LGU’s movement of pushing for Charter Change and everyone of her allies all placed on vital positions, her prolonging of her reign of terror is not impossible. As they did many times in the past (especially Enrile), they could easily stage orchestrated crises, troubles, crimes, rebellions and a milieu of chaos to declare a martial rule if the change of our constitution will not be accomplished at the soonest time. Then, we are all silenced. Her reign is prolonged until history will arm itself against a dictator.

She could then accumulate wealth, more and more wealth than what she has done and is still doing of plundering our treasury. And our consolation, “power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely”. She will ultimately face the day of reckoning when time will topple her down. A fact. And all she can do is escape, and maybe, a prepared place for exile where she and her family could live in excess is already in place to welcome her. Or she may ultimately become sick and her physical health would tear her down. She could die as a dictator or in exile. A fact. Or she could be jailed and tried for treason. A fact. Or she could be exiled at some distant lands (hopefully at some Pacific atolls where nuclear bombs are tested) and in just a couple of years, could go back to the country like the Marcos family as if nothing happened. Members again of the rich, famous and powerful. Never tried, never jailed and winning graft cases against the people of this nation. A fact. But not worthy of emulation kids…

Therefore, as Kris Aquino tells her interviewees, “We can never can tell”. But I say, I am pretty sure that what I can tell is that GMA is not trustworthy. One can simply never treast a devil though how lucky she may be.

GMA vs. Lotto Jackpot

I am now confronted to give my judgment of which between the two is most probable to happen. I think it is important for me to point out that these two are distinct from each other for the issue on winning a Lotto jackpot could be treated with precision using mathematical solutions and procedures, thus, we can arrive at a definite answer; while the issue on GMA is a complex reality of a human being who has already been swallowed by the dark side, thus, we can never give a precise answer. The issue of GMA in short is a very tricky one, it is like talking and bargaining with a devil.

But I think I would still go with the Lotto jackpot. You can win a lotto jackpot with one against a 13 million plus probability. While GMA won the presidency by “cheating” 80 million Filipinos and more or less 40 million voters! 40million > 13 million. A fact.

What do you think, want to bet?

Sen. Trillanes’ short stint at attempting to bag the highest position in the land drew different reactions from everyone and now everyone knows his name. His name has now become synonymous with Oakwood, Manila Peninsula, Rebellion, Mutineer and Arrogant military-officer-turned-senator-because-of-11-million-votes with the last one having the most hit on all search engines over the world. In fact, Mr. Webster is so busy as of this writing in adding up his name to the synonym of the word “dumb”.

Some raised their eyebrows while others symphatized either with the poor coup plotters or with the failed cause, with I think only a few on both. Some people labelled them as military adventurers while others call them as their voice amidst the drowning and deafening noise of macrocosmic lies in this country enlivened by telenovela, basketball, boxing and lotto.

All of us are definitely tired of this kind of system and corrupt governance but how to end this government is a big question to everyone. As soon as we wake up each day of our lives, news of bribery, corruption, harrassment on mediamen and leftist groups, abduction of freedom fighters, additional tax burdens on citizens and suppression of human rights of each and every Filipino of our downtrodden country flood unto us unceasingly and leave us with no choice but to know these facts of life no matter how painful they are; scourging our very own century-old search for equality, justice and freedom. I think Trillanes and his troops in walking out of the courtroom and marching throughout Ayala Avenue and eventually the storming of Manila Peninsula have the right claims against the government, wrong means and questionable motives. His claims against the government since their failed 2003 Oakwood mutiny only fell on deaf ears; they are now but just letters forcibly buried by allies of GMA into the dusty archives of some government offices. Despite of this seemingly noble act of defying the government, calling for a change, his means was not plausible enough to encourage a mass base to rally behind him. Many were caught unprepared. His fall magnified by his arrest (once again) is due mainly to his wrong timing, adventuristic actions, unprepared march and selfish exploit that turned off big groups and organizations though are sharing the same cause. Others even scoffed at him. Certainly, many people sporting the same camouflage were insulted for not being informed of the move that could have led to a new government or just a new set of government officials leading all of us to start anew and start once again from scratch. His motives has become clearer and more questionable as papers surfaced indicating his aim of establishing a military government with him as the one to lead as all to Purgatory or Promise Land.

GMA was for sure vindicated with Trillanes’ and his men faltering one by one unto the arms of military and policemen. She even managed to play golf with his husband (?) the day after wearing a golf cap (I forget what its called) as big as a picnic umbrella!

GMA I must say is a very strong, powerful and viscious leader; cunning as a snake, strong as lion and as bloodthirsty as a hayenna. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo knows power very well and she is certainly showing signs that she will become power herself in the near future (if we are not to do anything). There are things that I want to share of reasons why coups and attempts to topple her government has always been a failure and could still fail in the future before she ends her term in 2010 (if and only if she will trully step down by that time).

1. The military men are at her feet. She is her goddess and sugar mom. Ex-military men and police officials hold key posts in the government. From, energy, transportation, communication, different task forces and newly-existing-never-heard-of offices under the Office of the President are occupied by either mostly generals. What could they ask for? Military men since time immemorial could either create or destroy governments or institutions. Therefore, pamper them like babies in your lap full of toys at their disposal.

2. GMA certainly knows how to play chess or games of the general and wins always (of course because she has mastered the art of cheating). She knows where and when to place people at vital government positions. She knows who’s who, people who are as vicious as her but are only as good as followers which lead us to the next reason.

3. She mastered the art of Bribery. (no need to explain further).

4. Trillanes always fail and other attempts of civil society to topple the government because generals first and foremost will never yield and bow down to a junior officer without even a single shining star off his sleeve (talk about pride of a true military man). Certainly, these movements does not have necessary power of a big military back up; not just of some enlistee.

5. Presidential election for 2011 is barely three years from now and different wannabees have already taken their position and stance. Some are now constant faces on TVs and already went to Vicky Belo for some lipo and makeover to look like thirty-something. Certainly, these people will never want to be side-stepped, duped by a young junior officer over the presidential position. (talk of political ambitions, worse than military pride)

6. Economy is seen by many investors and businessmen as very very good at this moment under GMA. MBC is critical of the government. PCCI is a pup of GMA. Razon and FG are best buds. Dissention. Profit.

7. And for me on my last reason is that she has mastered the art of deceit.

I am sure all of us could add more to my short list. And after reading this, please do so though I know this will be a very painful exercise for some; to suffer for giving reasons why a small person could be so powerful at our expense.
