The new president is not only defying security protocols but more so conventions compared to the notorious former president who is now addressed as the honorable lady from the second district of Pampanga.

Only a few days into office under the tight watch of media and scrutiny of the public, President Noynoy Aquino is a complete turn-around from Gloria Arroyo’s leadership, character and management, making everyday full of surprises and added extra work his security personnel.

While GMA loved to flaunt her arrogance and clout to power through lavish spending of government coffers on so many unnecessary matters like travels abroad with the whole pack of her die-hard loyalists and their families joining the carnival (which by the way many now are joining the administration to save their perks) and expensive and gluttonous escapades; Noynoy Aquino chose to live a very simple and humble lifestyle despite being the most powerful man in the country. His cost-cutting measures and frugal administration was best observed during the inauguration party in the Palace.

During his inaugural address, Noynoy Aquino lambasted all politicians who arrogantly display their power by the use of “wang-wangs” or sirens defying traffic rules just to escape the notorious congested major thoroughfares. This arrogance that perpetuates the great divide between the public servant and the public to be served has been in existence since time immemorial that people thought they just have to live with it and live with contempt against their leaders. GMA and all her cohorts during her term were great examples of these power trippers on our roads; sirens howling the streets, black cars with black tainted windows, a throng of security escorts always ready to shove your car to the nearest ditch and motorists jammed for hours flashing their dirty fingers on the convoys.

But Noynoy as president is the opposite: he obeys traffic rules, do not use sirens and have to wake up even earlier in order not to be late for his engagements. By this example, many people even voluntarily surrendered their sirens to authorities after seeing the President walk his talk, while people only imitated Gloria Arroyo and her dark knights’ ways during her term to multiply many more acts of crime against basic human principles and self-respect.

People were first shocked but ultimately murmured, “it still works” in the Philippines.

But maybe the most shock comes from media people who had been following President Aquino’s new administration.

GMA’s administration was filled with scandals and corruption issues (to the delight of the press as they need not to look anywhere else for an evening headline news) that she has built towering and impenetrable walls for the media not to have any access to her; a government naïve and deaf and mute to the cries of its people. She is even more notorious with her disgust with the media showing no temerity when irritated. To save her face (to no avail as shown by her negative popularity ratings) her people were always at the receiving end of criticisms and most of the time doing the apologies for their boss. But we know better of course.

On the other hand, Noynoy Aquino is very open and accessible to media. During the first days into office of two of his cabinet officials, a bad signal and mishandling of media people by Br. Armin Luistro and Edwin Lacierda was seen. A total opposite of GMA, the new President was himself the one who asked for apologies and understanding for his new cabinet secretaries!

A long litany of many more differences between Aquino and Arroyo can be discussed the whole day, but these differences are not only for the sake of showing the distinct identity between the two but more importantly the clear peculiarity that the public sees of what a real public servant is from an arrogant self-serving public servant; the difference of black and white and not spreading grey areas on leadership and bureaucracy as GMA has perfected. The distinction only furthers the general public sentiment that we can still have a leader who can follow the most basic of laws in solidarity with each and every citizen to restore their sense of dignity and say, “it still works.”

GMA said that history will alone judge her, and by now judgment has already been rendered on her by history justly. The courts will soon follow.

An alibi may soon easily make the two Ampatuans walk free.

The Justice Secretary of the Republic of the Philippines made a resolution over the weekend telling his state prosecutors to drop the charges against Zaldy “Puti” Ampatuan and Mayor Akmad “Tato” Ampatuan Sr. in connection the Maguindanao Massacre for lack of evidence. The big problem is that Justice Secretary Agra made the decision without consulting the very people who are handling the case, believed on an alibi instead of the statements of a “star witness” and arrogantly acted like a courtroom judge and rendered the decision of who is innocent and who is guilty on the most gruesome killings of journalists and political opponents in the Philippines.

Lady Justice may have been forced to peek from her eye cover to see who this very confident cabinet secretary is.

And it seems that Sec. Agra is so confident that he may even walk on burning charcoals just to prove that he is right and his decision came from the holy mountains and written on stone tablets.

So many people and legal experts had already seen this coming; a whitewash if not the filing of weaker cases against the Ampatuans; staunch allies of the cutest president Gloria Arroyo who delivered the votes for her and her senatoriables in Maguinadanao.

Sec. Alberto Agra said that he has bought the alibi presented by the two Ampatuans specifically Zaldy Ampatuan who was in Davao during the massacre.

If I may, Gloria Arroyo by the way was not present in Maguindanao when cheating during the 2004 elections happened; Osama Bin Laden was not piloting the planes during the 9-11 attacks when they destroyed the World Trade and kill thousands; and Adolf Hitler was hiding on his bunker in Berlin when Gestapo exterminated millions of Jews during the last days of the war as part of their retaliatory actions. As what Atty. Harry Roque said, an alibi is the weakest defense, but this administration has been the epitome of making the craziest alibis; and that they are patronizing their own.

Now, the mouthpiece of the Palace who is by the way an American citizen, said that her cute boss should be sparred from this issue as she has totally nothing to do with the decision. Come again? Cabinet secretaries are alter-egos of the President if not alter-over-inflated egos of the President and whatever her secretaries do they reflect the very policies of her administration. Well, that is again one crazy alibi from the windmill of lies which they think we would easily buy.

The biggest problem in the world today is when intelligent people act like fools.

I will not wonder if soon the murder and the weaker rebellion cases against the Ampatuans will just end up with a jaywalking violation. And we know very well that jaywalkers in the Philippines go unpunished especially when you’ve got one good alibi.

Share your thoughts and comment, unless you’ve got one good alibi.

And that really sucks!

No more playing games and the serenade made by the mayors of Pampanga at the Palace urging President Gloria Arroyo to run for congress if not threatening her that they will do the filing of her candidacy themselves for her was no more than what eunuchs do best:Â to add more air to the over-inflated ego of their master, or in this case, the hand that feeds them cold cash.

There are obviously people who are raising legal questions (one of them is Former President Erap Estrada himself whose running for the Presidency is also subject to a legal tussle) as to the legality of Mrs. Arroyo running for a lower government position as to the constitutional provision saying that the President is not allowed to run for any reelection with the word “any” spelling out the big difference. No three-letter word in Philippine history could spell out a big difference for our country’s future and to more years of Lucifer dancing to the streets and painting the town of Pampanga bloody red.

I will leave though such complicated legal issue to those they refer as “the guys who knows better “on the constitution and its interpretation, though we are pretty sure that there is no such thing as a universal interpretation of our laws: it is still all about personalities, individual belief systems, political powerplay and sometimes level of personal “emo” moments among those who decide about what the law really says.

I don’t care if GMA wins as a congresswoman of the second district of her most beloved province which I think is already a given. I am actually doing my best already to train my tongue on saying Congresswoman Gloria Arroyo despite my tongue rebelling against my brain saying it would rather want to end up on a sizzling plate for a lengua estofada than speaking of heretical statements and end up excommunicated. Speaking of martyrdom.

Here are my thoughts about the issue. Good thing, I am not using my tongue to deliver these quick thoughts and typing on a computer keyboard has added on another reason for me to be grateful of living during the 21st century.

1. GMA winning the congressional seat without much resistance is a given. His son Mikey Arroyo therefore has to find some more suitable government position for him as he gives way for his beloved mother to invade his district. If his mother, a President runs for a lower office, I think following the dictates of precedence, Mikey is set to run for a Barangay Kagawad. But his biggest problem is how to justify a barangay kagawad owning a beach house in the U.S. I am betting my 13th-month pay on this one. Oh, that was my tongue doing the betting, not my brain.

2. There are speculations and fear that this is only one way for GMA to avoid lawsuits and stage another big comeback to the palace by becoming a Prime Minister when the constitution is changed and maneuvered by all her allies in the lower house of congress, who by the way still compose a big chunk of legislators we continually elect to watch fist-fights in Vegas. Pro-administration people will say that many have come to love fiction so much and the telenovelas.

Given that GMA is elected and many of her allies are still in the legislature, it will be definitely a different story when it comes to the people who are set to take the seat of the executive branch of the government after May 2010. Most probably, it will be Noynoy Aquino or Manny Villar, but as sure as GMA cheated on the 2007 elections, it will not be Gilbert Teodoro. To this, GMA will work co-equal with other legislators and will not have a free hand to government funds and machinery to bribe and allies and threaten oppositionists. Her pork barrel is at the disposal of the new president. Therefore, she can plan to return to power, but it will be a very difficult task that lies ahead of her. Lots of political complexity at that time; different heads of government agencies like the PNP and AFP, and a different signature on government checks. But we all know those nine years as a president has for sure earned for her a very fat check book, very FAT. Hmmm…

3. The next president will take a daily dose of Ibuprofen and become the new endorser of pain killers and sleeping pills. GMA will give the next president the uneasiness he does not want as an executive. GMA will still be a thorn on his throat – a little Cabalen thorn that does not paralyze its victim but rather give it a good sense of daily paranoia. If Noynoy becomes the president, he will lose more hair (but I think Kris could handle this for him). If it’s Manny Villar, an alliance with GMA is not impossible with both of them dancing “Igiling-giling” during the presidential ball. If it is Erap Estrada, he should be wary when his second year in office comes near, he may once again end up fleeing away from the Presidential Palace through the Pasig River.

4. GMA running for a lower office though may eventually be decided as legal (remember, almost 90% of all justices in the Supreme Court were all her appointees) speaks only of a further affirmation of the ill of her personhood and governance. Her lapdogs will say that it is the people’s clamor for her to run, that she is still young and vibrant, that she can still serve more and continue her programs and she can still give the nation more reason for workers to leave the country; are all good words hiding hideous agenda. I remembered also when it was the people’s clamor too for her to jump off presidential jet while it was gliding through the stratosphere with so many corruption issues raised against her. She may have been busy listening to her I-pod that time playing “I Will Survive”.

She already had all the power and resources at her disposal as president to serve the people and provide the needs of the nation; now she is running for a lower post to serve the people and fully provide for their needs? Therefore, she hasn’t actually served as a worthwhile President, nothing more, nothing less. Her running for a lower post is definitely for survival and greed for power. It may be legal, but it is not the wisest, most prudent and dignified decision for her. Well, we have seen her having nothing of these sterling qualities the past years though she asked for our forgiveness.

Prodded about her motivation on seeking a much lower government position after becoming the President of this nation fro nine years, GMA said:

“I have come to realize that I can best serve the nation from a seat in Congress should I be elected.”

PoOf!!! If all you can reason out is that you can best serve this nation by being a legislator, then you should have stepped down many years ago and spared all of the 90 million Filipinos the constant headache of senseless poverty, vomiting due induced shamelessness and the daily utterances of the French language that has easily earned for many of us a business class ticket down to the netherworld come the day of reckoning (with her?).

Again, I am not at all worried if ever she wins as a congresswoman. But I am now sending out copies of my CVs to foreign employers.

How about you guys? Any thoughts about President Gloria Arroyo running for congress on May 2010? For Cabalens who visited and have read this post: will you vote for her; why, why not?

The Oil Price freeze issued by President Arroyo as an Executive Order No. 839 days ago, in light of the prodding of the public and transport groups due to the island of Luzon subjected to a state of calamity though laudable is posing more problems than giving a cure.

Though oil companies have followed the EO and fixed their petroleum products to its October 15 levels, they have given serious threats and scenarios to the government as implications of the presidential order.

Oil companies are saying that though they followed the price freeze, they will get back to regain their revenue losses once the state of calamity for Luzon is lifted. For now, they have cancelled most of their importations for next month that they say will result to a supply shortage of petroleum products. By this, rationing of oil products from gas stations will certainly become a usual picture for commuters. Certainly a bad sight to behold for everyday motorists. Thus, in the end of all of these, they say that the public is still the eventual victim that the government is trying to protect by issuing the EO.

At this, the government still stood firm on its feet asking these major players to feel for the agony of the Filipinos who experienced onslaught of recent calamities and follow the order, lest the government will use all of its legal capacities to protect the public. Ultimately, taking over these companies was brought up and placed on the table.

In lieu of this new struggle between the survival of business entities to freely do their workings and the government’s intervention in behalf of public interest, it will not only be a legal battle that they will contest and the economic effects that they will have both to reckon with . What is more prominently being displayed in this serious situation is the lack of trust to both institutions.

Since the implementation of the Oil Deregulation Law, oil companies have been seen by the public and consumer watch groups as taking undue advantage on pricing and profiteering on petroleum products. The public has mostly resented the fact that these colossal business entities has been earning billions in revenues annually by being quick to rise their prices and so slow if not totally forgetful of rolling back prices to its just pricing.

While the government especially the Department of Energy has always been giving these oil companies their field day rationalizing their inefficiency if not blatant defense of the major players to the deregulated status of this industry; they have recently been so strong as to the implementation of EO 839 that raised some eyebrows.

People and pundits cannot easily dismiss the idea that with election coming nearer and the President is trying to hold on tight to her position due to many cases waiting to jump up on her like hungry lions, this EO may also have some hidden agenda tucked silently on its letters.

When the Palace has recently said that taking over these companies is one possibility in order to ensure the full implementation of the order, the bell rang for those who are guarding the moves of the executive with the fact the state of calamity may not yet soon be stripped off.

Though these were only opinions from many street corners and known figures who make a living out of doing commentaries, what it brings up is the fact that there is a mutual distrust between the two and a great distrust on the two from public opinions.

Oil companies could not simply be trusted when Agnes Devanadera threatened that she will open their books and they have been earning big profits already by not declaring the real prices on oil products giving them no reason to say that they will be on the red. And business groups and agencies are appalled by the thought of the government trying to intervene on business entities and threatening for a takeover.

Trust. It has become a rare trait that could not nowadays be easily given to public and private institutions by the people who feel the miseries and hardships caused by policies and governance and dynamics of politics and economics. It is not anymore seasonal distrust for circumstantial distrust that is being seen in people towards the President but a total distrust since the beginning and will ultimately end as one of the most distrusted if not the most distrusted President of the nation. It has become more difficult for the common people to trust companies when they say that they have been on the red light for so long a time when they are enjoying the lavish lifestyles being showered by their companies.

What is most difficult is after all these struggles between the two giants, the people will end up to be the eventual resenting victim than being saved from the peril of greed, profiteering and insensitive business practices.

We cannot therefore blame them if they cannot easily trust these people, institutions and machinations. For the people usually ends up to be the real victim. Prey do not trust their predators.

After this post, I am done.

I have been barking like a mad dog all fangs and red burning eyes on my previous post regarding someone “ssshhhhhh-ing” me on the public timeline of Twitter by not tweeting political topics and issues during the surge of Typhoon Ondoy.

There were varied opinions regarding the issue from bloggers and friends all over. And I really appreciate everyone who shared their ideas about the situation. But this time, I say that that guy spent a great time telling the wrong person to shut up on Twitter.  I say, his efforts only ended on futility like firing bullets that only hit the thin air.

Was I the one who was insensitive to the plight of our fellow countrymen?  Certainly he is barking on the wrong tree. Come on guys.

I think that there are people out there who should have received the real bullying if we were truly fighting for the plight of our fellow countrymen standing tall like Gat Andres Bonifacio or Daddy Joe Rizal

And there are those who are not only insensitive to the plight of the victims of typhoon but who found the rare guts of even taking advantage of the harrowing situation to pursue their personal selfish political ambitions. The nerve guys! The nerve, really.

Manny Villar and His Political Brand

Exhibit A. The picture shows bottled water with the name and smiling face of Presidential aspirant Manny Villar. These were distributed to evacuation centers during the typhoon. Now that is what you call maximizing the opportunity. Hitting two birds with just one stone: helping the victims and the same time early campaigning to make up for the lost popularity stashed away by the presidentiable late comer Noynoy Aquino.

I wonder if Manny Villar’s bottled water tastes differently from what I buy in the nearby store. Does it contain a secret potion that would make me vote for him come May 2010? Or it gives me the super power to become a billionaire. Well, my grade school teacher said every one of us is a billionaire-in-the-making.

How about his one? Exhibit B. This picture I got from PinoyGossipboy’s site.  You cannot just give out a Manny Villar bottled water with food in it!  And the ingenuous and resourceful instinct in Villar came out. That is what you call, grace and creativity under pressure and calamity.

Low and behold! Food packed on styro containers with the tag “Tulong Mula Kay Manny Villar” (Help from Manny Villar) and of course the holy color of the billionaire senator on it: orange sticker.

Ok, this could be faked and could be done by other detractors by the senator to tarnish his already-tarnished reputation. That quite puzzled me.  Anyways, saw the image on top of this post? That is the headquarters of Senator Manny Villar repacking goodies on signatured Villar plastics.  To simply put it, he really took the effort and spent a good amount of money on producing all these signatured products. That is political branding. I am waiting for an orange underwear to be distributed with Villar’s face on and a big letter “V” at the back. LOL!

You see the obvious guys. Or just ask Aaron of PinoyGossipBoy regarding the authenticity of the styro containers (it is his finger on that anyway). Or it could be a Happy Meal from Ronald McDonald. Who knows? LOL!

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Signatured Clothes for Evacuees

But if there is someone who is the mother of all traditional politicians who has been trying her best to salvage her sagging trust and popularity rating that is our very own dear Madam President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Here is the image posted on Reuters with relief good (clothes) being distributed to residents of northern Luzon who were affected by Typhoon Pepeng.  Noticed the ordinary plastic bags pasted with a slogan saying it came from our very own dear President Arroyo? And could we even call those clothes usable? I thought those were Mike Arroyo’s pants and shirt full of stains.

What makes her worse compared to Villar is that what Mrs. Arroyo is distributing come from donations of concerned citizens and from the coffer of the government, then labeled it as something that came from the President as if the recipients owe what they received from this mother of all traditional politicians.

In every disaster and challenges new doors of opportunity are being opened. And that is what these two politicians did during the destructive visits of Typhoons Pepeng and Ondoy. Capitalize the rare opportunity of building up their political agenda at the same time helping the poor and desperate victims of typhoons.

These are the real people who should not only receive the “sshhhh-ing” but also the anger of all those claiming to have the real empathy for the poor victims of typhoons.

But I guess only a few people will take notice of this particular issue. Â So long as victims of typhoons are being helped anyway, so they say.

Now, tell me who is the one who is politicking during calamities?

Now I am cool. I am drinking bottled water with Manny Villar’s face on it anyway. And the water smells like money. Yeah!

Do you know other politicians who had shown the trademarks of being traditional politicians? What is their style? Share them here. I will give Manny Villar bottled water to all commenters. LOL

Mike Arroyo, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA) and Mike Arroyo comprise the Arroyo dynasty of corruption that has pocket millions of pesos on their networth or SALN.

I really hate moments when relatives and uninvited guests (especially those who will introduce themselves as long lost relatives that you will meet for the first time) probe me and wheel the whole conversation during one of the most special days of the year to me by greeting a “happy birthday” and saying “you are totally like your father” after handing over to me their gifts of multi-colored towels and picture frame just like what I am always receiving during exchange gifts on my school’s Christmas party. Now I’ve got a whole collection of all the colors of towels from the darkest hues to neon green.

It is not because I hate my father that makes me flare up this way but basically because I am not my father. We are just totally different. I am a new person. I much more handsome than him!

But on this particular case, I think the old saying that the fruit is the same as its tree holds true.

Corrupted Macapagal-Arroyo Son

After getting caught with his pants off on national television under the wit and proving prowess of Professor Winnie Monsod about his questionable SALN (Statement of Assest, Liabilities and Networth) and his U.S. Property worth millions, Mikey Arroyo has resorted to singing different incoherent hymns in order to find that elusive justification to the obvious acts of perjury and graft and corruption.

Asked about why the sudden jump on his networth of P5 million in 2002 before he joined Congress to a whooping P76 million after a year and P99 million in 2008 (which is by the way an almost 1000% increase in just 6 years considering the global financial downturn that has swept down the richest of nations and people) and how he acquired such an expensive U.S. Property, here are his litanies of lies:

Mikey Arroyo said that the $1.32 million beachfront property in the U.S. was not his; then he said that his wife owns it (the property was transferred under his wife’s name); then the property actually is owned by the Beach Way Park LLC (for which he is one of the stockholders of the company); the he accumulated such a big wealth in just a span of six years because of the gifts they received from their wedding in 2002; then said that he received a great amount of campaign contributions from donors in 2004 and 2007; and then reasoned out most recently that his wife came from a wealthy clan but quelled speculations that he is a gold-digger; and that he filed for an amended SALN at the Office of the Ombudsman but the same office actually denied of receiving such an amended SALN from Mikey; then…then…then…

Mikey Arroyo fired back at detractors who still refuse to believe his long lists of justifications saying,

“to those who refuse to listen, the issue is unexplainable.”

Oh I see.

Corrupted Macapagal-Arroyo Parents

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo may have been considered “the luckiest bitch” in town by Joey Salceda but she always run out of luck as to not being linked to the exposés of grand schemes of corruptions. From the Fertilizer Fund Scam, Macapagal Boulevard Scam (the most expensive stretch of road in the world, a record-breaker for the Philippines! Yahoo, another Guinness!), NBN-ZTE Deal, Northrail Project, Palace Bribery, Quedancor Swine Scam, Hello Garci Scandal, and many more that always pin down her name to be at the receiving end of corruption and kickback. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s SALN or networth on 2002 was standing at P66.7 million but that has exponentially jumped to P171.8 in 2008 in just a span of 6 years! Beating even the number of our annual GDP and that of the stock market.

And not to lose his share of the loot is the kingpin of the present Arroyo dynasty Mr. FG or Mike Arroyo also known as the infamous Jose Pidal. He has been embroiled on countless corruption scandals and allegations on numerous government projects that my neighbor has given him a moniker as Mike-kickback Arroyo.

Of course, the Malacaňang people will always come to the rescue for GMA and her whole gang of corrupted kindred. Sporting the usual poker face they were trained to in front of the media. They come to the rescue for their boss by painting her as someone who is immaculate as snow. And if we still not buy their counter-arguments? Here is what they say:

“What is important is that we believe the truth and we are not getting tired in explaining the truth”.

Ooopss, I heard the sound of the cash register.

Macapagal-Arroyo’s Dynasty of Corruption

Coming with the obvious conclusion that these are despicable acts of obvious corruption if not plunder, not only by one person but by the tandem of a father-mother-son is not really a very taxing exercise for the Filipinos. It is not some rocket science or a legal parlance that only a few men understands. Sheer street smarts and if one practices that rare virtue of honesty are all that are needed to see the “red flags” of corruption. Inquirer.net interviewed anti-corruption agents who said that these “red flags” could be easily detected with politicians starts saying,

“having married a really wealthy spouse, transferring property to spouses or listing them under corporations, taking out “loans” from relatives for which there are no paper trials, owning unprofitable business with substantial assets and racking up increasing liabilities that cannot be paid for a public official’s meager salary.”

Mike Arroyo, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Mikey Arroyo.

It is all too obvious.

Unless if you are Merceditas Gutierrez.

Ooopss, I heard once again the sound of the cash register.

Do you believe that GMA, Mike Arroyo and Mikey Arroyo has amassed millions of pesos indicated through the sudden jump of their networth, even beating the stock market growth year-by-year since 2002 be attributed to corruption?
