Welcome back to my blog folks!

After succumbing to a blogging hiatus for weeks, Pinoy Sounding Board is back with a new look.

So first things first. Thanks to Jaypee and Jhay for helping me on the tweaking and upgrade of my blog; without them this blog of mine could have just been buried and forgotten under the gold and purple confetti from Staples Center. Man, my Boston was busted. If only Doc Rivers asked Larry Bird to play, they could have pulled it off. Enough now, next.

Second. Many people may have thought that I was so dead busy on lobbying to be one of President-elect Noynoy Aquino’s Presidential Security Guard that I could no longer afford to make a blog post here, so my sincerest apologies to all commenters and readers who were waiting for a very long time for their comments to be approved and been waiting to read a post here. Made already the necessary upgrade and tweaking of my blog, so everything is back to normal.

Third. Please bear with me as maybe you have observed that there are many messed up characters inside my blog post contents like this one on my Jejemon post:

I don’t exactly know why my blog post contained these kinds of messed up characters. Now I am crazily speculating that some jejemons got back at me, LOL!

Any idea guys what these messed up characters on my blog content are, why they are there are and how they are to be fixed? Any jejebusters to help me out? LOL!

There are two things running in my mind and as suggested to me by Jaypee: manually editing all my posts or using a plugin to change all this characters. But more than looking for a cure for this one, is the my need to know why my blog has all these crazy characters. Do you think Sarah Palin has something to do with this?

So that is it for now. Hope my blog will be in 100% great shape in the coming days, as I first fire Doc Rivers from the green squad.

Oh, the cow is crying “Moo, moo”! Time to go now and feed him with some fresh grass in order fatten his mad ass and make the whole farm happy. Oh, grapes, grapes, how I love those circled purple fruit! Have to gather them up, not to let them rot right at their branches in order to make the best wine for my best of friends. And of course all the veggies and fruit-bearing trees are singing merrily as the industrious farmer looks after everything with caution, love and dedication…right from the computer screen.

Wow, sounds like the way my grandpa took his farming chores in the province  so seriously not even my grandma and her shrieking voice could bother him. I myself wanted to retire on a serene and beautiful farm so long as there is an internet connection and a computer unit inside the farmhouse.

Taking farming so seriously the way Britney Spears is so damn serious of honing her craft by doing for so many times a lip-synch on her concerts is only as good as if you are a real farmer and second, if the whole universe and inter-planetary councils are not screaming out of bewilderment of what happened to Writing To Exhale and where has its “influential author” have gone for more than two weeks now.Â

I will be rude to you Bro. No, I will be gentle, haha. I can’t be rude, though you were asking me to whip you hard for deserting your blog and chose to live on Farmville where many other bloggers have found another online calling. Call me a chicken, bok, bok, bok! It is just ok, I know you take care of all chicken in your farm meticulously and lovingly. *smiling*

To simply put it, I just want to join Mam Jena on calling out Jan to wash his hands, dress up and put away for a moment all those farming tools, gloves and farmer’s hat in order to go back to blogging and strip down the post on his blog’s door saying: “Influential Blogger Feeding the Pigs, Cleaning their Poo, Don’t Disturb”.

Anyone who does not miss Jan, his brilliant posts and engaging conversations with readers? Oh, I am seeing all hands in the air Bro.Â

It is your readers calling you out Bro; to take the first ride out of the farm for a moment in order to make a post and tell all billions of people in this planet and the alien bloggers from the unknown galaxies (who by the way are preparing an online inter-galactic petition to call you out) gazillion miles away of how you are doing. “I Am Doing Great!”, that could be one great post for a start; but knowing you, you will not settle for such a lame kind of post for you always reach for the stars. Having problems of what to post as you confided to me? How about “How I Milk My Online Cows” for a second post? LOL!

Well, I cannot point out any other more reasons to compel you to go back to blogging. Except that you will be soon receving the the official decision of the court rendering its judgment on your act based on existing laws and presented evidences, LOL! It is your blog anyway and it is you who blogs anyway, hehehe. Just be ready to see throngs of your readers camping out of your blog’s doorstep.

I wonder how it feels to be featured at Tumblemoose, LOL! Moo, moo, moo! LOL!

Â

I cannot really get this out of my head, just like the need to put up a high-speed internet connection at home: unless I write and share about it. Yes, another blogging issue for me if I may. Simply put it:Â Blogging rant.

Have you experienced being told to shut up on Twitter? No, this is not a direct message that is confined between the privacy of the two of you and to hell with everyone else if you both will do a fist fight or a word war.

Being told to shut up on the public timeline of Twitter and be told to twit twit twit this more worthy stuff than twitting crap?

Sounds nasty isn’t it? Yes it is.

Shut Up And Twit These Stuffs Instead

It happened two weeks ago while Typhoon Ondoy was wrecking havoc on Metro Manila and on many parts of Luzon. Yes, I was tweeting during that time braving the heavy rains and some flooding near our area. Good thing I have my own rubber boat. What was I tweeting?

Obviously I was tweeting my posts and my thoughts and all, like “Oh my goodness, when will this heavy rain stop?” and “Crocs on the Loose” and “Darn, I am so tired”…etc.  And it is no accident for me to tweet socio-political issues and ideas nor was I just trying to piss off some very serious people out there while other Filipinos were drowning and wet and hungry and holding on to dear life. Was it like rubbing salt to bleeding wound?

Out of nowhere a stranger (a stranger in the most literal sense that made me ask myself why in the world have I followed this guy in the first place) twitted me saying: “Dude you should stop tweeting political stuffs. Tweets better used for info dissemination on typhoon right now. Seriously.”

Huwaaat??? Are you serious? Ok, I see it, you are.

I totally understand the predicament of this guy who tweeted me from somewhere. Maybe he was very very upset over what has happened with the flooding here and there and all the destruction in brought the metropolis.

But hey, you tweeted that on the public timeline. It was like it also rained on me so hard.

What to Do Someone Told You to Shut Up on Twitter

I tried to keep myself all calm and tried to re-read his message over and over again. Letter and words all in my brain. And after so many times of reading the message trying to confirm what I thought of, I still ended up thinking that he indeed crossed the border.

Here is how I handled the particular blogging issue:

1. Â Tried to re-read the message if it was indeed offending, or that he said some truth, or I was just carried away by my excitement to get back at someone who tried to tell me to shut up and twit these kinds of stuffs instead.

2. I asked another blogging buddy to examine the message if it was indeed offending. It is better sometimes to ask someone who is impartial to tell you of what he thinks on blogging issues. I just hope that blogging buddy I asked to assess the message was indeed impartial. *wink* And what makes this step more important is your BBFs (Blogging BestFriends) could also share some thoughts on how to easily handle these kinds of crazy stuffs.

3. When your blogging buddy told you his opinion it is now up to you to decide if you are to launch your warheads right to the direction of that nasty guy or just let is pass by as if nothing happened. Will you defend yourself against the accusations of this man or cut off the cheap online relationship? Or was he worth keeping?

4. As for me, I felt offended for he has no right to tell me what to say and not to say; he has no right to twit that for the whole damn world to know; and he does not know nor even read what is the content and context of my posts. He could have recommended on me to tweet those things that he wanted me to say on Twitter, that would have been all so fine but he choose to bully me outright. If I was not tweeting every second infos about the typhoon the, does that I mean I care less about the plight of our fellow Filipinos who were suffering the typhoon’s fury?

And it was the same thing that my BBF told me so I had to immediately cut short the shallow Twitter relationship. I immediately unfollowed the guy and cut off all relationships with him on other social networks. So that ended up our little online romance when he proposed to me to shut up. Hey, I am paid by speaking up.

It does not hurt anyway to unfollow people you do not really know and just makes your twitter counter bloated with uninteresting strangers. Unless this is a very close blogging buddy, I will certainly think twice of cutting off the Twitter relationship. I would rather trade barbs and show my punching power, for in the end it will just be a painful process of pruning and strengthening our friendship; than to totally cut off the friendship.

Blogging Issue Again? And more?

Well, blogging is a place full of issues, intrigues and nasty people. But don’t get all too afraid. The great, talented, happy and helpful people outnumber those who cannot live up what their mommas taught them during their younger years.

When confronted with blogging issues? Be calm. (Yes Bros, I now learned this rare blogging virtue). And consult other blogging buddies especially those who could be called “pros”, “veterans” or “more experienced” for their wisdom if you are uncertain on how to handle such irritating issues. Then, decide.

But certainly, never stop from blogging. There will be more of this kind of issue as you go along on your blogging endeavor; but at that time, you are already a “pro” by your own right.

On to you now guys. Have you experienced being told not to tweet what you are tweeting on the public timeline of Twitter and look tweet for some more worthy stuffs? How did you or would you handle such incidents and blogging issues?

In the midst of the slow invasion of the “dark side” on the hearts of so many, select citizens coming from the different corners of the blogosphere stood up to fight with one heart and mind despite of their own weaknesses and frailties, to prevent the annihilation of the upright, the good and the true. Like gold tested on fire, the Jedi Bloggers come together closer and became even stronger amidst adversities and personal differences. By using the “force within” to value friends and relationships through service in the blogosphere beyond personal gains and selfish interests, the Jedi Bloggers swear ”to uphold the noble quest of the knights to be an effulgent, coruscating star, when the darkness of pride overcomes the light of humility; when the obsession to win overcomes the conscientiousness of being a good loser, and when petty misunderstandings cloud the sanctity of friendship.”

Â

Below is a rare interview on some of the Jedi Knights who have come to grace the occassion of truimph and sheer display of the stellar virtue of unity made apparent on all their blogging endeavors to win against our greatest blogging enemy; the “dark” side” that lurks within.

Â

Â

How and when did this Jedi Bloggers started?

Â

Jena Isle: I first heard the term “welcome to the dark side” in Jan’s blog from Jedi Luke. Chocolates were mentioned too as a gift if readers would visit Luke’s site. It was intended to be a joke but since then I began calling Luke – Master Jedi Luke, likewise with Jan, Doc Z, Roy, Yatot, and you – to name the core group.  Â
Â
Jan had written some posts about the Jedi Knights and Lady warriors and has even a blog roll for the group. It was also in Jan’s post that I mentioned the Code of Conduct of the Jedi Knights.

Â

Roy: Here’s my idea of how it started, if you remember Lucresio which later became known as Luke didn’t have a blog before — puro comment lang siya. That’s why Jan often refers to him as ‘the one from the dark side’ hehe… kasi nga wala siyang blog.

Â

When he finally started, in a way, parang nagkaroon ng ‘informal’ formation na. Jan welcomed him with a post, I also have a welcome poem for him in my Sugar Coated World called ‘For The One Who Walks In The Dark’Â But, puro biruan lang ang tawagan na Jedi bloggers nun, with Jan as the Yoda because of age factor hehe… wala pang seryoso nun.

Â

I think the Jedi Blogger was ‘officially formed – underground’ at least, via two channels – the influential blogger project and thru twitter. It was a time when the 3 of us – Jan, Z and me were very active at twitter, ban pa yata twitter sa inyo nun hehe… but I think madalas kayo mag-chat thru gmail nung time na yun. So thru the running of the contest, naging active communication naming 3, tapos nga thru twitter naging kulitan… until naging mga jedi bloggers na nga (shortcut hehe…. “Refer To Jan”)

Â

Yatot:Â Â Â ~ As far as I can remember, jedibloggers started when a fellow jediblogger, Lucrecio Emerito started blogging to the “dark side”. Before kasi, Lucrecio was only writing comments to master jedi himself Jan Geronimo’s former blog, Sa Labas ng Mandaluyong. His comments were really a lengthy one. So, master jedi suggested, why not Lucrecio Emerito start his own blog and write his own opinions ala blogging not just some lengthy comments. So there, master Luke’s blog “The Dark Side” was born! Incidentally, since Luke has chosen to be in the dark side, an equally elite force must be created to balance the equilibrium, thus, Jedi Bloggers was born!

Â

Doc Z:Â It started from tweets and comments left at Jan’s site. So, He would be one of the founders of the jedi bloggers. I remember when I was new at his site (formerly, salabasngmandaluyong) he kept mentioning jedi master Luke’s name. Of course, other than the similarity with the name, Luke is a Jedi when it comes to blogging. Then comes us, You, Roy, Me, later Jena, who jan started calling Jedis. We are all bloggers, hence, Jedi Bloggers. I can’t remember the exact date when, but it must have been just a couple of months ago, give or take.

Â

Jan:  It started with a visitation. An unassuming reader by the name of Luke started commenting on my blog. I thought he was an ordinary mortal. Turned out he’s a Jedi Knight who has come to lure me to the Dark Side armed with dark chocolates. We become instant friends although to this day I have yet to see these dark chocolates. Calling each other Jedi Knight is a term of endearment. And we started calling blogging buddies Jedi Knights. Enter Roy and Doc Z. Not bad huh for celebrating online friendships? Doc Z has visions though. What can I say? Poets like him are like that. He’s latched on the idea of Jedi blogging and he never let go until we agreed to his vision.  Â

Â

Â

What is a Jedi Blogger? And what are the qualities of a Jedi Blogger?

Â

Jena Isle: A Jedi blogger is selfless. He uses “the force” to motivate, encourage, help and protect other bloggers.  He puts service to others above his own self-interest. He does not act because of self-gain, but because of the common good. They also observe the Golden Rule -”Do unto others, what you want others do unto you”.

Â

Roy: A Jedi Blogger is one who is always truthful, doesn’t sugar coat his words (e.g. Jan hehe…) and one who doesn’t discriminate bloggers whether they are newbie or masters… but is definitely not intimated by the ‘gurus’.

Â

Yatot:Â Â Â ~ A Jedi Blogger is someone who embrace the force within the blogging environment. Any blogger could be a jediblogger… but since this is an exclusive circle… not everyone is entitled to be one… lols! Nah… actually, a Jedi Blogger is someone who has the force, the power to attract every blog readers in his/her own little way… this is the way of the force… he/she blogs about anything… rants on occasional basis… has his/her own view and stick to it… has principles that he/she believes in… loves Sandara Park so much (lols)… and blogs in the way of the force.

Â

But what is force? Force is any external agent that causes an object to move… it can either be a push or a pull… now relate that to blogging… a force could be something that can move a blog reader to write a comment, to come back for more reads and to attract even more readers… that is the way of the force.

Â

Doc Z:Â Ah, we didn’t even know what a Jedi blogger is, but we know that being one is to be righteous when it comes to posts and promote positive effect to the readers and protect the weak, well, sort of, the neebie bloggers who happen to frequent our blogs.

Â

Jan: Awts – that’s a hard question, bro. Let me just say that a Jedi blogger values his friends and relationships. He’s not invincible, he’s not a superman. He has his weaknesses, too. But he fights them with all the powers at his disposal. His supreme achievement is not to surrender to the dark side of the blogosphere.

Â

Â

What do you think is so special with the Jedi Bloggers as a group of bloggers?

Jena Isle:Â Aside from observing the above mentioned noble virtues, they work as one – united in their diversity and look our for each other and for other bloggers.

Roy: Simple, we look up for each other. Our communications are not limited thru our blogs. Our light sabers are special because they send SMS and smoke signals hehe…

A jedi blogger can say that another jedi blogger’s light saber is either too sharp or too dull and it will not bring imbalance to the ‘force’ – a spade is a spade… and a wheelbarrow is a wheelbarrow hehe…Again, please “Refer To Jan”.

Yatot:Â Â Â ~ They know how to fight siths! But what are siths? Siths are anything that is bloggable in nature.Â

Doc Z:Â Not only does a jedi blogger help his fellow jedi’s blog, he is also a role model for newbie bloggers. Well, that is how I would like to think about it. A good influence in the blogosphere. We know how easy it is to fall to the dark side, as a jedi blogger, one is a beacon in this dark universe, so to speak.

Jan:  Think cohesion. We watch each other’s back. We take care of our interests. How do you think we are able to do well in Janette Toral’s writing project, “Top 10 Influential Blogs of 2009?”  Yeah, that’s the most tangible proof of Jedi Bloggers acting as one body. You should see us in flight formation in the blogosphere. Yeah – poetry in motion. Cliche, yes. But that’s the most immediate thing that comes to mind.

What so special with the Jedi Bloggers? Meaningful relationships or friendship define us. We are not here just to give each other pageviews although that helps. We are not here just to be each other’s evangelizers in the social media. That’s a great benefit, too, of course. In friendship comes powerful alliances. Think of the world in the palm of your hands.

Â

Any future plans of the Jedi Bloggers? Any plan for evil Darth Vader?

Jena Isle: Darth Vader has been won over to the good side in the end because of his love for his son. This would be one of the plans – to promote love and not enmity in the blogosphere. To observe the Golden Rule. This for me is the mother of all rules. I’m sure Jan, Roy, Doc Z, Yatot, You, Holly and the rest have more plans in mind.Â

Roy:Â Secret hehe…Seriously, don’t know as of now, please “Refer to Jan”, pansin mo IÂ always refer you to Jan? hehe…Â that is in a way asking you na rin to inform him, and I guess he would ask you too to inform our Queen Amidala – Jena.

Yatot:Â ~ I hope someone with a good nature of the force will buy the domain http://www.jedibloggers.com.ph/ for whatever reasons or caprichos he/she will have… for happiness’s sake…Darth Vader sucks! Lols!

Doc Z:Â Future plans? Well, a common blog is one. You know how different the niches of each jediblogger, right? One can contribute his specialty in a particular subject. Eg. About writing – Jan and Jen, Poetry – Zorlone and Roy and Jen, Tech stuff – Luke, Politics – elmot etc.

I don’t know who fits the description of Darth Vader in all of this. Maybe, metaphorically, he is the darkness within us all. So, it is our role to keep him at bay and stay within the code of the Jedibloggers.

Jan: Mastery of ourselves. The real battle is not in the galaxies but within. We plan to be real masters of ourselves first and foremost. I hope we can zip through the process in hyper-drive. It’s a painstaking process, but with the help of other Jedi bloggers, this makes it less daunting.

About any plan for Darth Vader? Hey, I am Jedi Anakin, Elmot. Do you think I’d plan for my own annihilation? Not if my light saber can help it. Proceed at your own risk, you scumbags of the nether regions. Ahehehe. I’m just kidding. I’m not that uber with the light saber – I need a boot camp to sharpen my sword play, you see.

Oh, the other Darth Vaders? Lay down your arms. Resistance is futile.Â

Â

Know more about the Jedi Bloggers by visiting their blogs, to gain more blogging buddies and hopefully get some bars of dark chocolate after posting your comments on their posts LOL!: Luke, Roy, Yatot, Jaypee, Holly, Jena Isle, Doc Z, and Jan. Don’t forget to visit also the Young Jedi Bloggers ReyJr and Kelvin.

Connect with us via Twitter: Jedi Bloggers

Remember: anyone could become a Jedi Blogger. But first, be ready to combat and truimph against the “dark side” of blogging that tries to ensnare us from within.Â

May the blogging force be with you!

What is the “dark side” that you encounter on your blogging? How do you try to rise against being consumed by the dark side? What are the most important values you espouse as a blogger? Share your thoughts here, who knows, I will be generous enough to give all commenters bars of dark chocolate…or Jan and Luke giving these freebie?  LOL!

Master Yoda used to tell me that there are two ways of looking at a phenomenon as a Knight; that basically holds true also on our way of relaying such phenomenon to other people. We could either see it on a positive guise or just be consumed by the “dark side” and become an eternal cynic and perpetual pessismist:Â seeing an event/crisis as an opportunity for growth or simply as another curse.

Â

And having read so many blog posts on “How to Become a Good, Great, Superb Blogger-that-everyone-loves, etc.” outlining the stellar qualities one should have to be the darling of the blogosphere, I wish to deviate from that one on this post sharing of ways for bloggers to become Darth Vader’s  BFF.

Â

This time, I would like to invite bloggers into four simple yet effective ways of Becoming the Most Annoying Blogger who has ever lived. Let us start working.

Â

Â

Â

1. Be a Blog Holdup Man

Â

How about this one: A Blogger courted you from dusk till dawn leaving no rocks unturned just to gain your favor and include him on your rockstar list of nominees for a contest. Having been convinced and given the “kid” the opportunity to shine, poof!, he just walked away without a fuss; without even saying “thanks” to you after he got the loot.Â

Â

Therefore, try to employ this dirty tactic: steal the favor and confidence of blogging buddies and when you got hold of them, vanish on the next dark alley never to return again. Certainly, there will be a blogger somewhere who is very very annoyed with you ready to cut your throat the next time he sees you lurking somewhere.

Â

Â

2. Blackmail Your Blogging BFF

Â

There are I think a few fortunate bloggers that could sleep well at night because of not having blogging buddies and lurkers under their belts who have perfected the art of emotionally blackmailing their blogging BFF and blogging idols. Or there are bloggers who “could already sleep tight” after cutting the throats of these “emotional predators” off their system.Â

Â

The good news is, you could easily become one! By doing these simple tasks to your blogging buddies, you will certainly get famous and carve for yourself a name on the Hall of the Most Annoying Bloggers that ever lived:

Â

1. use your friendship as a means to conscientisize your buddy over a stuff that he/she disagrees with you;

2. be a nagging immature blogger by pushing your agenda and being deaf to other’s opinions;

3. blackmail your blogging buddyby saying this effective line whenever you have misunderstandings, “I will not visit your blog anymore. You will not see me in your blog forever. You lost a precious friend out of your own making.”; and

4. Lastly say, “Goodbye! Mwah, mwah, chup, chup.” LOL!

Â

Â

3. Perfect the Art of Spamming

Â

This third stuff is something that is just too easy to do; no sweat. Love to blog hop? Certainly. Why not add some stupidity on being a frugal rabid commenter and add the elusive fame on your blogging resume. You can start by going over Chow, Cow, Shoe, Rowse and many probloggers. Try to fill up those usual empty spaces for you to be remembered well by visitors and blog owners. Don’t read their posts anymore for it will just waste a couple of minutes that you could still spend on some more blogs. Remember your basic virtue as a spammer: frugality.

Â

Then, drop the bomb baby and comment: “Nice post!” Or put all those incoherent affiliate links and spam messages your momma tried to purge from your dictionary. From there, visit all the blogs that could come your way and do the same step. Do it over and over again to perfection.

Â

Â

4. Be a Blogging Magisterium

Â

This is the most difficult part of being a perfect annoying blogger for first, it requires lots of confidence for one to proclaim salvation to select bloggers and damnation to those who fall out of favor; and second, one should accept the fact that he is to live alone on his solitary cloud away from those he condemned. Â

Â

How to do? Assume that you are a blogging goddess blest by the favors of the gods and godesses of Mt. Olympus; untainted with human frailty, immaculate as snow. From there, blog hop. Read the posts of all those lowly bloggers then do either of the following:

Â

1. condemn with full authority all blog posts that are against your opinions, unpromulgated blogging laws and dictum as if you are standing on a higher moral ground; and

Â

2. complete your dominance as the blogging demi-god by trying to segregate into different classes all the bloggers in your kingdom

Â

Â

With these four simple steps, you can easily become one of the most famous and annoying blogger that has ever lived. A couple of doing these stuffs over and over again, until reaching perfection, you are assured of a place at the Hall of the Most Annoying Bloggers.Â

Â

But as they say, you cannot have the best of both worlds. So by being the most annoying blogger, be ready to live in the dark silent corner of the blogosphere with nothing but the howling of solitude and the pounding of your breast.

Â

Ever encountered an annoying blogger? What is an annoying blogger for you? Share your experience here, I am so excited to hear from you guys.

A pack of dark heavy clouds coming from the east corner of the sky coalesced with the radiant morning sun; until the whole light was covered by the hue of greed and indulgence. Fear enveloped humanity. Everything now was full of darkness and terror.

Slowly, the dark clouds opened up ushering the evil that has once again resurrected from the forgotten part of the vast universe after being vanquished by the Knights on their legendary battle. His black robe and fiery eyes signal the return of the man whose heart was enveloped by the “dark side”. From his eyes, people can clearly see vengeance and thirst for blood; the blood of those who defeated him. Signaling the annihilation of the select race that has thrown him in to a black hole centuries ago, he called out his Cro-Magnon-like minions and summoned them to sow seeds of terror and destruction.

“Bring to me all the Knights. Kill all those who will block your way!”

To this, his minions scattered in all directions of the earth killing innocent lives, destroying everything they could see until they could bring all the Knights to their master.

Â

1. Writing to Exhale: Jan was tweeting, humming tweet tweet when two Cro-Magnon-like creatures appeared before his doorsteps ready to kill him with their deadly crooked swords and sharp fangs. True to his skills as a Knight, he immediately took his armored black helmet and wore his black leather jacket. As one of the monsters tried to strike it’s sword to Jan’s head, he “exhaled” on it hundreds of tweet messages. The monster fell on its knees because of the sheer volume of tweets and Jan instantaneously used his helmet to crush the monster. “@Jan_Geronimo: Right at your back!” A fellow twitter-buddy sent a tweet on his screen and Jan immediately jumped off the window and landed on his scooter. His donorcyle’s engine roared running 20kph off the roads of Mindoro. As the monster ran furiously after him, Jan shifted gear and headed towards the ugly monster and hit it with his 20kph blinding speed. The second monster died and vanished. This knight then tweeted, “I’m all well. Two down, buddies! James Dean here.”

2. The Struggling Blogger: It was a lazy day for Roy who was still brainstorming for posts for his 13 blogs on his cozy sofa that blogging bought, while sipping his own version of steroids: coffee. A good idea suddenly popped up from this spiritual director for his post. But a slimy monster with 15 eyes, 5 hands and 3 feet jumped off the new sofa of this Knight. “I will kill you! Grr!” said the monster. Roy saw how dirty his new sofa now was and got so angry at the despicable sight. He rolled up his sleeves and took the stance of a true warrior. As the monster was ready to pop up one of its ugly bulging toxic eyes, Roy took his hot coffee and poured it over the monster. The monster was burned and screamed to death, and Roy took the opportunity to swat it with his “fully-loaded” mobile phone. “Not on my new sofa, you sucker!”

Â

3. Zorlone: Doc Z was still enjoying his siesta, a sleeping beauty for three hours now. He thought he was only dreaming when a hot chick suddenly turned into an ugly creature. He was still half-naked when he saw that everything is real. The monster with his crooked sword chopped Doc Z’s water-bed into two flooding his room. He then jumped off his nearby CD player and immediately pushed the “play” button. “I will never dance again, guilty feet, got no rhythm.” To this, the monster was in trance and started to dance asking for the aircon to be turned on. Doc Z saw the opportunity to kill the beast and took his laptop; aimed his video cam and took his stethoscope that flashed a laser beam on the monster. Kaboom! “That is what you call a Ghostbuster scandal dude. Kawabangga!”

Â

4. Dear Bloggery: She was out for a break having her vacation on La Luz, Batangas. But the radar of the dark entities was just so strong that they tracked this beauty sun-bathing at the beach front. “You’re hot dear, but Master told us to kill you.” Snow did not quip and just took off her shades to take a good look at the enemy. “You sure?” The monster showed its fangs and jumped off Snow, but she suddenly sprayed it with snow and the ugly creature froze to death. “Now, don’t ever bother my vacation.”

Â

5. Tales From the Mom Side: Dee already knew that some of the Jedi Knights and Lady Warriors were attacked by the minions of Darth Vader courtesy of the endless blow-by-blow tweets of Jan. To this, she and her husband Luke readied themselves. Argg! “We have ugly visitors dear.” said Dee to her “cute” hubby. She readied her laptop with its stars and smiley stickers. When Luke opened the door, bullets and lasers coming off from her smiley and star stickers peppered their ugly visitors. “Don’t ever dare try to go near my laptop and its stickers. Right Luke?” “Aye, aye madam.”

6. Home Buddies: Near their neighborhood people were already screaming and running for their lives. Fedhz just kept still playing with her child. She paused for a while and prayed so hard that her family be spared from all these atrocities. Hours passed by and no monsters ever came near them. But outside a monster was reading a sign posted at Fedhz’s doorstep, “Home Buddy”. The monster was a couch potato. Poof!

7. Social Media Philippines: Rob also heard the news but he just kept his cool on his cubicle. He tried to compose a tweet just in case a monster suddenly attacks him. Kapoow! His officemates fell unconscious after ferocious Cro-Magnon-like creatures barraged at the opposite cubicle. He then immediately sent his tweet. “I am the one you are looking for.” he said. The monster marched forward and one of them wounded Rob on his left arm. Rob stood up and just rubbed off the flowing blood. He took off his shades and fired at them his laser beam like Cyclops. All of a sudden, a “padyak” rammed the other monster from the opposite side of the office killing it with the bladed “padyak wheel”. A familiar man then stood up and told Rob, “Believe me, I was the one who really tweets.” Oh Mr. Palengke in the house!

8. Dare to Speak: It was quite a surprise for Silver to see dark clouds all over her head on high noon. “This is not quite the same weather when I was in our little place Barrio Siete. Ininto man ni nga panahon.” she whispered while reminiscing here old roots. “Waaah!” Ugly creatures crushed her furniture and flowers in her garden. She ran for her dear life not knowing what to do. One monster got hold of her by the hand and not letting her go. “We will crush you and bring you to Darth Vader.” Kling! She suddenly knew what to do. “Hey, I will go with you if you could answer my questions.” The monsters scratched their heads and replied, “Seems a good idea. OK.” “Who is blah…blah…blah…When was the blah…blah….blah…What is the blah…blah…blah…” The monsters got so dizzy and fell unconscious not knowing what to answer with Silver’s unending quiz bee narrations. “Laki kasi sa gatas.” said Silver with a sheepish smile.

9. Kelvinonian Ideas 2.0: He was on his way to school sporting that funky outfit and hairstyle and a pro-camera dangling on his shoulder. Students suddenly screamed while others jumped off from the second floor of the school building. Chug…Chug…Chug… “Who are you?” Kelvin asked. “We are here to kill you!” Chak! Chak! Chak! Kelvin took pictures of the dark legions and got them blinded by his camera’s thundering flash. He immediately manipulated the pics off his laptop, tweak some stuffs and clicked “save”. In an instant, the monsters turned into miniature toys and screensavers.

10. Barrio Siete: The barrio council convened already on what to do and everyone is now ready with their bolos, talong, patola, kalabasa, okra and upo in hand. The barrio kapitana shouted, “Let us chorva the uglibesh monsters with our chenez weapons!” To this all the barangay tanods shouted in response, “Chorvahin sila!” An army of ugly creatures arrived and the skirmish commenced. Kapitan Reyz smashed the monsters with talong and patola while some of the tanods where wapakels in readying the cauldron. “Winers na attech. The monster pakbet is now ready mga chorvalors!” shouted the kapitana. And the feast started.

The remaining monsters went back to their Master badly wounded and feeling defeated.

“Master, those Knights and Warriors were just so strong. Our army was defeated.”

Darth Vader turned from his back from what he was busy doing in the computer and starred with great anger to his minions.

“Dimwits! Stop the crap! Go occupy those seats and now make your own lists of Top Ten Nominees. Let us all defeat those suckers in the remaining four voting weeks.”

“Yes boss! But could you teach us how to make a blog account?”

“Ask those Jedi Bloggers, you nutheads!”

I am once again trying to invoke the power of the whole cosmos by reciting a new mantra that hopefully could override the basic sad fact that I am a total idiot when it comes to technicalities on blogging.

“I know how to tweak my blog.” Hum…

You got it right. Jan’s latest post announced that I am moving this blog to its new home on a wordpress self-hosted blog courtesy of very generous blogging buddies. And though Big Bro already announced it to the whole universe via his superb post that the “house blessing” would be “very very soon”, it may once again take me another weekend to get all things fixed and before you could see the whole new look of Ani-Mo!. If only my parents endowed me with a Bill-Gates-patterned genes, the moving out could have been a breeze.

Â

Â

My Thoughts on How to Choose a Rockstar Domain Name

“I am a tech-savvy blogging geek.” Hum….

I got lots of great suggestions on my previous post of what domain name to take with Elmotlumot.com topping the list and only a select but persevering blogging buddies pushing for me to sport Quickieblogger.com and Niluluhurangblogger.com. Now, I am wondering why no one ever affirmed my suggestion of taking Superveryhandsomeblogger.com? Old Zen master whispered to me: “just believe in yourself.” Hum…

Few important points on choosing a domain name that I considered. Since I am not the tech-savvy guy, I forgo of sharing technical stuffs here and end up looking like a Jay Leno trying to be like Oprah:

1. Your domain name should also be your blog site.

This may be elementary to some but a few fundamental items on this one are worth remembering especially for all those who are also planning to take their blogging to the next level. It is much easier for readers and people to remember a blog’s name than its url because readers focus much of their attention on the content of one’s blog (or comment form, for rabid commenters, ehehe) and not much on its url. Hey, one cannot comment on the url!

More often than not, first time readers and visitors get the imprint of your blog or site through its big bold blog title on your header and browse through your blog posts. And with the ultra sensitive url form and address structure, a missing letter, misspelled domain name or wrong domain name extension could usher your visitors and returning readers to another blog; to its owner’s delight.

Here are some examples:

Blog Name/Title—-Domain name plus their extension

Writing to Exhale—-www.writingtoexhale.com
The Struggling Blogger—-www.thestrugglingblogger.com
Jaypee Online—-www.jaypeeonline.net

Therefore, putting synchrony with your blog’s name and domain name could give convenience to your readers and visitors rather than giving them a maze to test their patience. Imagine if your blog has this setting: your blog name is The Struggling Blogger and its domain name plus extension is www.writingtoexhaleandinhale.net. Total blogging disaster!

2. A domain name describes your persona

One should never get a domain that he loathes, for blogging should bring us total control, confidence and harmony and not a conflict over what we do. It should be indicative of the personality of the blogger behind the blog. As uber blogger Jan told me on one of our many conversations on his long and vibrant comment forms: your blog is your resume. Our blogs tell us of who we are as the blog and the blogger is only one, unless of course you have a multiple blogging personality syndrome. Coherence between our blog’s Yin and Yang gives and readers a sense of genuine identity and not some pretentious blogging expeditions and experiment on the blogosphere. It also unconsciously sends some personal trademark to all those who visits such a blog.

3. A domain name gives readers your sense of blogging style and branding

We may be blogging on different kinds of niche but in the end, the one who rises up is the one with great class and effective branding. And domain names work also to this effect. One great blog I could share here is that of the child protégé Dan Miranda who shares about self-improvement posts on his blog Command Your Time. His domain name which is basically is also his blog name automatically gives us the idea what this guy has to share and what kind of stuffs he is up to. Same with that of Jan’s Writing to Exhale and that of Problogger or Copyblogger and many more. That is why I think it is quite crucial for one who is going to start his blogging on a self-hosted blog to examine also what kind of blogging style and branding he/she wants to build over his/her blog before choosing a domain name.

Leaving Ani-mo! For Pinoysoundingboard

I may be reaping lots of traffic come the start of UAAP with the Ateneo clashing over arch-rival La Salle for having Ani-Mo! as my blog name. But after some brainstorming and focusing on those three stuffs to consider on choosing a domain name, I realized that my blog name (which is also the same in part on my present domain name on blogger) is not really that reflective of my take on things and my direction on blogging.

Though it could give maybe some setback on my ranking and present PR come my eventual evacuation, changing my blog name Ani-Mo! into Pinoysoundingboard has set clearer parameters for my blogging and has given me more focus on what direction to take. It also reflects my persona and the sense of brand I want to build over my blog. And more importantly, I have come to synchronize my blog name that of my domain name, which basically I failed to do in blogger.

Pinoysoundingboard.com therefore will be my wordpress self-hosted blog about commentaries on current events and blogging with a magazine-type wordpress theme.

I just hope that when I move out of blogger to house my blog on a new and more spacious home, I would not find myself chanting my mantra all day long all by myself. But first thing is to tweak all the stuffs that need to be fixed. Just so thankful that there are so many generous people who are set to help me out.

Hum… Hum….

Hum….

What were your considerations in choosing your blog name and domain name? How do you find my new blog name and its domain?

I think I could claim that I made one of the craziest lists of nominees for Mam Janette Toral’s Emerging Influential Bloggers of 2009 with nominees ranging from those who could make you a one sharp-fanged rabid commenter to a blogger fuelled with caffeine on maintaining his 13 damn outstanding blogs with vigor; from one blogger who can shut the daylight out of the career Angel Locsin for being such a beauty, to a mom blogger that I once called “bro” after her tear-jerking comment here. *blushing* And that list undeniably made me one crazy blogger after luring all bloggers from all sides of the earth to suggest two more blogs that I could include on my list of eight while actually I only listed seven and skipped a number, proving that I was always enjoying my time at the fourth row during my math subjects. I confess that it was not totally part of the trick but an honest mistake. Therefore, my list leaves me three more vacant spaces for superb and emerging influential bloggers to occupy.

Â

Though this may came a little bit late but I would like to share some thoughts on the current buzz on the Pinoy Blogosphere about the Influential Blogger and maybe guide also those who are not yet done with their precious lists.

But who is the Influential Blogger?

Mam Janette succinctly described the emerging influential blogger by sharing some excerpts that we could use as guides on our selection from the king of leadership himself, John Maxwell who said “Leadership is influence. No more, no less.”

Here are some other points on leadership and influence:
• Everyone influences someone.
• We never know who or how much we influence
• The best investment in the future is a proper influence today.
• Influence is a skill that can be developed.

But how could we know that a blogger is influential?

Though you send me a basket of “balut” or freshly-baked gourmet pizza, but that does not assure you of my vote and love unless you are one hell of an influential blogger in your niche.

Let me share an incident.

There is this one very aggressive blogger who emailed me quite a number of times. First time, asking me how am I doing on my blogging and asked me to check out his blog. Poof! Second time, asked me if I have my list already and maybe could consider his blog to be included on my powerhouse list. Poof! I did not reply to his emails being true to my word that the one who deserves will get his due.

And the hullabaloo happened. There was this heated exchange of comments on another blog with the same guy who emailed me against one hot hunk blogger, whether a new blog with almost no posts on it be included on the nomination with the sheer reasoning that the owner of the blog has done tremendous things on doing SEO works on his other blogs. Darn, it was like Fernando Poe Jr. versus his arch nemesis Paquito Diaz! Bang, bang! Kaboom! Pow!

The owner of the blog refereed, and guess what, the SEO guy placed his blog on the top of his list of nominees!

I think, one important point is that the blogger in general could not be separated from his blog; he is his blog! This is where he expresses his ideas and connects to the world, and where the world connects to him. Without his blog, he is nothing but a solitary ordinary man confined on his own life space. His blog speaks for him and listens for him (hopefully he does know how to listen) to whatever other people say.

Therefore, one’s blogging influence is measured by his communicating power to his audience. You communicate with people and they recognize you and this is where influence comes in. Power here is not the strength to put down others or force readers and visitors to confine themselves on fear and guilt for speaking out their minds or worse excommunicate them from the blogosphere . Either, recognition is not about praises on our blogging prowess but is basically all about honesty. Readers, friends and strangers, interacts with you on your blog; they may most of the time agree but are not also afraid to disagree with your ideas for they know that being influential means being open-minded to the wider world and to other voices. This blogger may not be the highest authority or the man solely holding the bastion of truth on his niche but his voice could be recognized as a valuable point-of-view worthy to be listened to. And if I further may add, he basically influences your own blogging in some ways. That is the influential blogger.

Vote, Vote Vote!

There are those who got scandalized with bloggers who placed their blogs on their own nominations. Or those who are irritated by the nomination-spree of bloggers of their own friends to their list that makes them top the canvassing week by week.

I have nothing against this one, but if I could only use the same measure stick that I use on my own nomination on other bloggers, my sole criterion is “meritocracy”. For heaven’s sake, if you think you truly deserve and take note you feel your readers, friends and blog visitors attest to that, then go on! One who deserves his due should not be robbed by this great opportunity. Vote your friends, nominate them and even yourself maybe; if and only if they truly and you truly deserve to be on that list side by side other Pinoy uber bloggers. I saw many bloggers who did not nominate themselves though they are really pretty much qualified technically and in the strictest sense of the word influential. But in the end, our votes will therefore speak of ourselves.

My Final List of Even Crazier Emerging Influential Bloggers!

In the coming days, I will be posting my own “complete list” of even crazier emerging influential bloggers, minus my moronic way of counting from 1-10, promise. So brace for yourselves.

Three slots are still open and they will be occupied in just a couple of days. My congratulations in advance.

What is your own “distinct” definition or criterion of an emerging influential blogger as basis for your list of nominees? Who is the Influential Blogger for you?

Yehey! Independence Day! It is a holiday and many of us surely will celebrate our moments of liberation from work and academics with a short vacation over the weekend or flock the nearest malls to cool off ourselves and enjoy a whole day of window shopping happy meals.

I know, I know, let us revere this day. Hear me guys? Therefore, when you go to the mall to spend your independence day, take out from McDonald’s a burger and large fries for your dear friend Elmot. Now, that is one holy act of charity.

But fact is: the sacrifices of our revered heroes are now mostly left on their own hardened monuments scattered all over the parks and busy lanes of our cities coated with dust and disregard. Their cries for a better nation for the next generation devoid of corruption, poverty and illiteracy are still as elusive as capturing Osama bin Laden or “Garci”. These are realities that could make us bite our lips and languish in silence. I am still praying so hard though that I would not see a “statuette” honouring our most beloved Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo anywhere, even beside the “statuettes” of the 7 dwarves in children’s parks. For heaven’s sake, let us not make a great disservice to Snow White and let us not insult those hardworking dwarves! Poof!

But I will not choose to dampen my spirit having a litany of all the ills in our nation for I am still on seventh heaven after receiving a wonderful and unique gift from a friend that tries to prophesy my fate in the blogging world.

Jaypeeonline Dot Net You Rock!

As a birthday gift for myself (for all those who haven’t sent their gifts yet, they are still very welcome until I celebrate my next birthday), I won 1st on Jaypeeonline’s Top Commentator for March with the whole of cosmos conniving for me to take home $15 in Paypal, a wordpress Wordcamp shirt and wordpress schwags. And I can say that Jaypee and blogging buddy Jan unleashed the commenting prowess in me and sharpened my fangs. Meow!

And a few days ago, I received these wonderful stuffs with the king of pinoy blogging Jehzeel Laurente himself arranging the delivery of the items. I opened the package with my heart pounding so fast in excitement and kaboom!, I am now the proud owner of the unique WordCamp Las Vegas shirt and schwags! Wearing the shirt gave me the feel of being at the WordCamp, Las Vegas! Wow! I can say that Jaypee really knows how to make his readers feel so special. I can only sing hallelujah to him.

Thanks Jaypee! Visit his blog for a bigger upcoming event and he will make you feel real special.

A Blogging Omen?

On one of my previous posts I shared my plan of packing my stuffs and move out from blogger to a self-hosted blog under wordpress. With so many considerations to weigh like financing this new venture and knowing the fact that I came from the village of idiots when it comes to tweaking web stuffs, I asked for a sign from heaven (darn, so cheesy!!!). And though I was like a hopeless romantic waiting for the falling star to make a wish, but asking for a sign never failed me this time. The heaven-sent sign? Those wordpress stuffs that Jaypee sent me! Tells me to move to WP.

And for an update: I do now have a web host for my eventual moving out from blogger, but I am still contemplating on what domain name to choose.

I have been trying to summon some divine inspiration on choosing a domain name and all I came up after asking for a help from a friend who does not want to be named here lest lose his dignified stature are these stuffs: niluluhurangblogger.com, (courtesy of reyna’s previous comment on one of my posts) elmotlumot.com, quickieblogger.com (no comment), thesuperveryfamousblogger.com (half-truth), thesuperveryhandsomeblogger.com (truth), gumigilingnablogger.com (lie). Now, that is what you call divine inspiration eh! LOL!

So save me guys, from further degeneration and on tickling my silly imagination and be censored by the MTRCB. On to you now, suggest a domain name for me here. Tips: not a so dead serious name; something that reflects my personality and this blog; and exciting. Price for the winner: I will include you in my constant imagining, and give a hot domain name for your blog, LOL!

Once again (coz I have yelled this on my blog so many other times…ooooppsss). Let me therefore correct those reports that were circulating the web that spiked the most searched news on google trends. No, I was not assassinated by those people I nominated and spoofed on my Craziest List of Nominees. I am very all well, alive, kicking and blogging! And I must admit though that since then, I started to wear a bullet-proof vest. LOL!

No more excuses lest I will get some hard spanking from LJ (once again….ooopppsss). I have to make a post today after leaving all the throngs of my screaming die-hard fans camped out on my blog waiting every second of their breathing life for any word from me. And now, I can once again hear them screaming? Ows, thank you, thank you. I thought I would be seeing a jungle of moss took over my blog after more than a week of absence. Thank God it has been kept alive by uber blogger friends. Balut for you guys.

I actually took a one week vacation leave from work which ironically was not really an exhilarating escapade on the Amazon with piranhas nor staying-at-home-watching-TV-24/7 bonanza style that I planned. My wife’s grandfather died and after a couple days came their family reunion. A week of grieving (tears in the morning and of course tong-its in the evening till the next daylight), and three days of get-together with all the pancit and screaming of oldies to a village of children running to and fro without their underwear.

To make the long story short; I haven’t posted for more than a week and got myself so darn tired instead of sipping a fruit shake with my skimpy swimming trunks under the summer sun (peeepeeww…hey, don’t try to imagine how I look like on this outfit, though it would be close to that Jude Law) on the beach as I planned.

Well, need to get over it; rearm and be back to work, blogging and studies with the same fire and (over)confidence that I had when I posted my Crazy List of Emerging Influential Bloggers.

Back to My Desk

Yesterday was actually the first day of our official reporting to work. But we as an office spent it on a recollection in Tagaytay to help us focus and maybe start our job on the right path without the emotional baggage and unnecessary spiritual burdens. And I think the activity did really me out on putting myself back on a work mode without a heavy heart.

And to think, that one of my most crucial job for this school year is being one who is in-charged of Vocation Promotion for the De La Salle Brothers in our university. You are reading it right guys, I am not high on drugs or on the smoke of burning flip flops. Wooohhh! Can you imagine that? Now I am thinking of consulting my own spiritual director Roy, ehehe! Hope I could send more young males inside the formation house for more vocations that pull their legs out to the real world.

Thesis Writing ASAP!

I will also be enrolling on my thesis writing 01 in a couple of days to finish my master’s degree in guidance and counseling. This is already my 5th year on the graduate school of education and so the director has always been screaming at me to finish my studies lest I will have to take refresher courses for exceeding the 5-year residency. Wow, such a lazy man I was! Now, I am scrounging for topics for my thesis, from parental discipline to OFWs, from househusbands to stupid teaching strategies. Maybe I should write about blogging? Darn! My head aches! All my brain cells are still on vacation mode…And one more thing. Finishing my Masters will increase my salary quite big time, ehehehe! This part is what is exciting.

Blogging SY 09-10

I am actually contemplating one important thing regarding my blogging. I am actually planning of having my own self-hosted blog, transferring the contents of this blog to a wordpress. I think having my own self-hosted blog could make my blogging more regular and easier for me to do. I could also my millions of avid fans a better place to stay in; warm, nice and cozy. I am still researching for a good webhost (if not free webhosting) and one good domain name; doing all my mathematics.

I hope to follow suit with LJ’s metamorphosed blog and Doc Zayden’s eventual jumping to WP ship. And it will be one hell of a happy blogging family here.

Ahhh…no, it is not part of the Hayden videos. Well, I just hope that I could juggle all these three important things and tasks that I will have to do this new school year. Best of luck then to Elmot!

Any topics that you could suggest for my thesis, if it is not too much of a burden for you guys? LOL! Do you think that it is wise for me to transfer this very famous blog to a self-hosted WP blog? Will I become one heck of a good vocation promoter? LOL!
