This is a dangerous idea. No, this is not Sen. Lito Lapid’s idea.

I have heard about this a couple of times already during some casual conversations with coffee buddies and officemates. And some people on Facebook have actually floated the idea as they commented on my very famous Noynoy Aquino post which has by the way landed on the top spot of Big G since I published it. (Big G: Are you under influence Elmot?) Yes, got so much caffeine lately that I now think I am a coffee bean.

Going back, what if Noynoy Aquino loses his hair? Oh, he already does.

Here: What if Noynoy Aquino is trounced on his bid for the presidency?

A couple of friends and a total stranger who looks like Angelina Jolie on his FB pic but with a name of Restituto actually resonated the same confident and overexcited answer: “Eh di, People Power na uli!” (Well, that simply means another People Power!) While the other one actually said, “Eh di mag-People Power tayo!” (Then let us mount another People Power!)

Like a boring telenovela on primetime with the same stupid recycled characters and predictable plots of killing all the good men brutally by hurling them from the 200th floor, we may simply push down the “off” button of the remote control and head without delay to a very tempting Facebook quiz about sex positions that tells your kind of character after hearing this idea.

This is simply a figment of one’s very fertile imagination some would immediately assert, and just kill the issue with kamikaze fighters flying out from Malacañang Palace. But I think there is some little possibility for this one to happen.

How?

This is the real game of political spinsters and sinister plotters; one that has been perfected by only a select sect of ugly-looking politicians and political strategists lurking on dark street corners.

Step 1: Portray Noynoy Aquino as the heir, the crown Prince of Philippine democracy and root this to the euphoria of the people. Attribute to him and his candidacy as the answer from the heavens to the collected litanies and prayers of a nation crying desperately for an overflowing supply of signature clothes and pirated CDs of sex scandals. Inculcate to the minds and consciousness of the people that it is the “clamour of the nation” for him to run and save us from the pit of national damnation. Make everyone believe that everyone is actually wanting for Noynoy, even the protesting farmers of Hacienda Luisita.

Step 2: Portray the administration as the “evil Step-Mom” that needs to be exorcised by Fr. Felmar; that there is no other way around but to put a stop to all the plundering, lies, deceit and Presidential boob jobs. Float the idea that election fraud is being cooked all this time at the Presidential kitchen by bogus election chefs and over-obedient generals just for the bad guys to win the seemingly one-sided presidential race that favors Noynoy.

Step 3: When Noynoy Aquino is defeated on the presidential elections either squarely or due to election fraud, the public should be instigated and all his supporters that he simply was cheated by the bad guys and the menu they cooked was indeed aldente. Inflame the public outrage and boredom; push the people to go out the streets handing over free fried chicken with rice on plastic containers and free movie pass for the screening of “All My Life Part 2”. Invite the Sex Bomb Dancers during protests and rallies to keep the people heavily anchored on their seats. Let your battle cry be for change and freedom from the oppression of hoodlum traditional politicians and incessant boob jobs, flawed butt augmentation and relentless mason work on Madam Auring’ poker face. Call the people to go out the streets and protest and push for a People Power III like what his mother has led during the Marcos regime.

See? It is not at all so impossible.

This is how one becomes when over caffeinated.

Care for a coffee on my comment form? What do you think will the people’s reaction when Noynoy Aquino will not win the bid for the Presidency aside from maybe Kris getting pissed off for losing her house? Is another People Power possible?

The yellow strips scattered all over town has turned green only a few hours ago as Sen. Noynoy Aquino has declared of taking on the challenge for the Presidential race on 2010.

Around 8:00 AM at Club Filipino, Noynoy Aquino for President has taken off as he officially announced his presidential candidacy 40 days after the death of Former President Corazon Aquino, without naming yet his choice of a Vice-President.

From the coverage of Inquirer.Net, Noynoy Aquino declared:

“Tinatanggap ko ang hiling ng sambayanan. Tinatanggap ko ang tagubilin ng aking mga magulang. Tinatanggap ko ang responsibilidad na ituloy ang laban para sa bayan. Tinatanggap ko ang hamon na mamuno sa laban na ito. Tatakbo po ako sa pagka-pangulo sa darating na halalan (I accept the voice of the people. I accept the advice of my parents. I accept the responsibility to continue the fight of the people. I accept the challenge to lead in this fight. I will run in the coming elections).”

Many of us had already seen it coming and the political tide has instantly been tremendously transformed with the Senators confirmatory words.

This is obviously a welcome political development. But from those politicians, who had declared their willingness to serve the nation and set aside all their personal interests, they have the heavy responsibility to show us their platform of governance and in return all the citizens have the basic right to ask for a clear direction that these presidentiables are planning to lead us to.

This is part and parcel of the challenge for a genuine change we are dreaming of for our nation; critical analysis of everything that is being offered on our plate before taking a bite and an active participation of discernment in order to come up with a right decision and in the end all of us will learn the lesson of political and national responsibility.

I am personally glad that Sen. Noynoy joined the fray for it will certainly bring about a more dynamic political milieu; those overconfident will have something to rethink about and all those alliances and political strongholds will be stirred from status quo.

But what I will be immediately expecting from him as a voter and as citizen in the coming days and months is a clear platform of governance and sets of policies and directions that he is planning to implement once elected as our next president: his stand on issues like climate change and the environment, corruption, education, charter change, peace in Mindanao and GMA’s accountability for all her excesses. Something to invalid all the claims of the other camps, that he is a politician with not much accomplishment during his long stint in the Congress. And something that could lift up his status as a man of himself.

This expectation is not only expected from Noynoy Aquino but for all presidentiables. But with the tide of sentiments and hope of nation seemingly all thrown out at Noynoy’s shoulders, much more is obviously expected from him.

As PinoyGossipBoy commented: “The “messiah” has declared his presidential bid.”

Let us see and expect from him his plan of salvific action. Let him try to convince me.

What is your opinion of Sen. Noynoy Aquino for President? Anything that you are expecting particularly from Noynoy Aquino?

Are we trying to pick a green young fruit that is still undergoing the yellowing process on its branch too early with our crying for a Noynoy Aquino for President?

Are we just carried away by the sudden flood of sentiments when the Mother of our Democracy Corazon Aquino has gone away ahead of us, and in desperation for change set our eyes instantly to her only son; anointing him with so tall an order of restoring our precious basic right of freedom from the slavery of greed and poverty?

Or are most of us even making the right decision of believing the fairytale woven by some hopeless romantics that Noynoy Aquino is our sudden messiah that will usher us out of the land of Egypt back to the chosen nation of overflowing milk and honey.

Or are we set to make history once again by voting Noynoy Aquino for President?

I have nothing against Noynoy Aquino on a personal level, but all esteem and appreciation for being the son of two of our greatest national leaders and heroes for democracy. Something that he automatically earns from a plundered nation and wailing people who cherish in their hearts the hardwork of his parents. Rather than riding on this political development that has turned on to be a carousel of melodramatic political tide that has swept the imaginations and the fancy of voters, I rather beg to choose the tedious road of wrestling with myself in order to discover the fact and the truth from those that are only fruits of our longing for “instant personal and national gratification.”

There are two waring sides on this story.

The first one trying to believe that Noynoy Aquino is our messiah; the man sent by the heavens to save this nation from unparalleled corruption of the few and the harrowing poverty of many. After the influx of public sentiments and the somewhat rekindling of the Cory Magic during her burial, came the little whispers that soon transformed into a loud cry by some camps pushing for Noynoy Aquino’s candidacy for the Presidency come next year’s national polls.

They say: Â Noynoy Aquino is the only public servant who is not corrupted by the “dark side” with a public record devoid of corruption and incriminating scandals he could actually brag about; he is the one plucked by fate to carry on the torch of democracy his parents has fought for and restored to its dignified state; his parents are national heroes; recent events seemingly has conspired to affirm the clamor of the few for him to become our next President; a number of Presidentiables has withdrawn from the presidential race in order to have a unified political front and nation to support Noynoy’s candidacy; Noynoy Aquino is the only political figure who is not overeager for the highest position of the land; and so on and so forth. Ergo, Noynoy Aquino for President.

On the other side of the fence however, are those who try to diffuse this floating feeling. They contend that Noynoy Aquino is too young to become the next President and could settle for the Vice-Presidency instead in order to have enough time to beef up his experience; businessmen are a bit unexcited with him for the reason that he does not have the solid experience in terms of administrative capacity and especially with issues of the economy; Fr. Joe Dizon and his group are very reluctant to throw in their support for Noynoy for not having the solid stand and accomplishments regarding the Comprehensive Land Reform Program (CARP) on his long years of service in the Lower House of Congress and Senate, with it the lingering problem of so many farmers on Hacienda Luisita, that Noynoy’s family the Cojuangco’s owns; that many of us are only being carried away with our emotions on handling this particular political scenario. Ergo, Noynoy Aquino is not our only choice and not the only most qualified person for the Presidency.

Tony Meloto of Gawad Kalinga and a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee offers a spark of wisdom in the middle of a whirlwind teleserye. He said that it is tragic to see that Filipinos are “always looking for somebody to pin all [their] hopes on and also to blame when these hopes are not realized.”

I am not saying that we should not vote for Noynoy Aquino for President. What I am trying to say is that we should all be cautious and on guard not to fall to the trap of riding the tide and floating feeling when we are to choose for our next president. Neither should we make our desperation for a “sudden change” the barometer on throwing in our support to someone who seems to be and could be our savior. This is the same traditional and patronage politics disguised in a new face.

To this Tony Meloto says:

“We don’t have to look for that one leader to bring our nation to glory. It’s important for us to see that every Filipino can love this country as much… because there’s only one Cory and one Ninoy in our lifetime. But there are millions of us within this lifetime who can love this country as much as they did.”

From my personal eyeglasses I could see that many of us are slowly falling on this bad Filipino trait of throwing in everything, banking on someone believed to be our sudden messiah. There is no sudden messiah. But there is only one me and you who could save ourselves individually.

Noynoy has gone on a spiritual retreat (which I observed the only spiritual retreat with all the cameras flashing for so many photo ops) in order to discern what God really wants for him; maybe we are also forgetting is that we are obviously expecting too much from Noynoy that it is maybe as important is that we all undergo our own personal retreat also for us to choose the right person whom we could call our President.

On which side of the fence are you: banking on Sen. Noynoy Aquino for President on 2010 or believe that he is not qualified yet and should settle first for the Vice-Presidency?  Aside from Noynoy, who are the other presidentiables you see most qualified and morally upright to become the next President?
