Philippino, Phillipino and Philippinos

This is a very unusual blog post.  For a very long time I have not been making articles about keywords that are misspelled by people searching them online yet had a great amount of traffic.

Well, my blogging buddy Ark Hilario posted this so, sorry bro, but have to copy this keywords and hopefully get some blog jouice too down the line, hehehehe!  Congratulations to your 1000th blog post!

Going back, these words (Philippino, Phillipino and Philippinos) are usually misspelled by people when they try to search for information regarding the Filipinos as the country name is Philippines yet the citizens are called Filipinos. There is quite a deviation from the natural like Singapore to Singaporeans and Japan to Japanese.  While the Filipino is closer to its first name of origin of “Las Islas Filipinas” the name Philippines was more of a product of the English translation brought about the American occupation after the Spanish colonization of the country.

The name by the way Philippines came from the first Spanish conquestadors who give this name in honor of King Philip of Spain.

Filipinos has been stereotyped and had also suffered incidents of racial discrimination from other countries yet, they have become even more resilient.

As a result actually of this name coming from colonizers and its derivation from Spanish, some lawmakers had even proposed of changing Philippines and Filipinos to a more Malay name (the first Filipinos are of Malay race) that is “maharlika” which in Filipino language may mean noble race.  But this legislative proposal was shot down.

I’ve read Aaron Wall’s SEO book (sorry I forgot the title of the book). It is also necessary to include misspelled words in keywords meta tag.
