Influential businessmen, bar association, farmers group and concerned citizens are raising the need to create a parallel manual count on the May 2010 automated elections fearing that the automated election may also become a vehicle of automated fraud.
But the Comelec (Commission on Elections) is resisting the call together with presidential candidates Dick Gordon and Gibo Teodoro. The parallel manual count says the poll body will eat added hours for people who are to work for the elections and at that, the tampering of ballots may create more chaos on the results than regularity.
Both camps we see aims the same goal: a clean and honest elections. And fearing the worse: another election fraud to a national election. But we can see also that they have different ways of doing it.

at this point, if there will be ways na mapoprovide so that manpower for that parallel counting will be possible, baka pwede pa yan. Kaya lang kasi, even the people who are involved for the automation are not well-trained, it will just add up sa mga current and possible problems ng automated elections.

I agree with you Fjordz…daming butas hindi lang sa preparation kundi pati na rin sa competence ng mga taong hahawak ng machines…hay. This opens lots of room for fraud and manipulation.

I’m not in favor of the parallel manual count. It’s a total waste of time and resources — it’s too backwards. Who will do the counting? The teachers again? I experienced being a poll clerk doing that manual counting a few years ago — it’s really chaotic. It’s a big NO!
