Election day is getting nearer and nearer. We may just wake up soon and it is already the day of reckoning for us, for some and for the future. Or even wake up one day with Erap as once again the president. Oh my, that will be the day I will look for a tora-tora and commit a hara-kiri attack on the Presidential Palace.
And what the last few days and weeks bring us is a great opportunity for the electorate to see people elected into public office turn from green into grey, grey into yellow, green into orange while others from white into a multi-colored politician, like a true seasoned traditional public servant trying to survive the harsh and dangerous jungles and plains of Africa. These are just previews though of many more stupid, hilarious and mind-boggling things to come.
We saw how the star came down to be liberated, bringing with her her husband who by the way gave to us the burdensome expanded value added tax-that-will-solve-our-country’s-financial-crisis years ago. But up to now, the added tax is still hurting our pockets and worse, the country is in a bigger financial crisis. Double-talk.
From the administration party of Lakas-Kampi-CMD of President Arroyo, Gov. Vilma Santos and husband former senator Ralph Rector jumped ship and coalesced with Noynoy Aquino’s Liberal Party for next year’s polls. The stars are now somewhat complete: megastar and star for all seasons. This is an unprecedented cosmic and astronomic event happening right at our country.
It was like an apparition they both said. Suddenly, from the darkness of night in Lipa, Batangas, a gust of cold wind blew to where they stood while they were holding their glasses of milk (remember: drink twice a day); and the clouds opened up with the whole powerpoint presentation on the night sky revealing to the couple slide-by-slide a mystical message only they two could decode. And from there, they experienced a metanoia, an instant change of heart, realizing that all this time their goals for their constituents; their aspirations for the people; their solemn promise to the electorate, their noble obligation to the masses, could only be achieved by leaving their old party and join Noynoy’s bandwagon.
Ok, we can now all give them a round of applause guys. Bravo. And I have to activate ASAP my blog’s anti-missile defense system for all the Vilmanians who will bombard me with nukes and rocked-propelled grenades.
Not to be left behind is Sen. Loren Legarda. Playing the real hard-to-get that she is, different political camps were said to have courted her to become their vice-presidentiable; from the administration party to Villar’s Nacionalista Party. If I know, Legarda is the one who is really trying to sell herself hard to all these political parties who are ignoring her for being a true-bloodied political chameleon. The saving grace for me though is the thought that the song tells of a “karma” for chameleons who come and go.
Where was I? Ok. Lo’ and behold, Sen. Legarda is now the standard partner of Sen. Villar for 2010. With VIllar and LEgarda tandem for 2010, the Mr. Langdon in me decoded a secret message without sweat from their team-up = VILE for 2010.
They need to feed each other. Only days ago, some 12 senators signed up a resolution trying to dismiss the ethics case against Villar. Guess what, Sen. Legarda is one of those signed on the document saying the case should be dropped despite the fact that no final report and recommendations were yet made of the committee that has investigated the presidentiable for the alleged wrongdoing. And what is more astonishing is that Sen. Legarda was one of those who first stood strongly against the C-5 controversy, denouncing it as a corrupt act and abuse of power. Well, that was months ago. Today is a different day and amnesia is a very contagious disease among our beloved politicians; except having amnesia of their bank accounts.
They are only some.
But as they say in politics; there are no permanent friends and enemies, except permanent interests.
That is why the old wise China man who spends the whole day meditating in front of a fast food chain near our place told me to be wary of those who changes colors and easily do so, they are political chameleons; and those who tells the public that they “suddenly” realized what is wrong from right for their people, they are big fat liars. But he said be more afraid of those who says that they spoke with God and He told them to run for president; they nuts.
I will just then take comfort on singing Karma Chameleon.

Yup, congratulations buddy.
With regards to the country’s political scenario, I have in the past forced myself to vote on the ‘least evil’ due to a ‘no choice’ circumstance. Today, nothing’s changed actually.
On reflection, I imagine that anyone who stands on the shoes of these politicians will probably have no choice but to play along in the game in order to survive. This means, of course, having to sacrifice some particular values. They’re all balimbings inside no matter how they dress themselves up.

If survival and political survival at that is the only measure and motivation of our politicians; definitely we should not be amazed or astounded of different people changing tones and colors especially during an election.
What this reveals to us is the undeniable fact that the people and the country’s welfare are not really the primary reason and importance for these politicians.

I totally respect if you are a great admirer of Loren Legarda, that is part of our individual tastes and reflection on whose side we are to believe.
Indeed, Loren has helped in a significant way in crafting laws on protecting Mother Nature; but governing the Philippines is not only about Mother Nature — it has lots of facets equally important. And it is not only that a candidate has helped in crafting laws about the protection of nature that makes him/her more qualified than others; what is more important in politics is how a politician behaves, acts and what kind of principles he/she has advocated or has been flimsy about.

It isn’t bad to move to another party, it’s part of moving on. Now, the only problem is how the Filipino minds were greatly influenced by anything, by anybody especially those in authority– those capable enough to name-tagged each other just like how children do. If the principle and the reason for a change is sincere, then why not move? After all, Sen. Loren has done enough for her position, and those petty stuff shouldn’t be an issue anymore.
There’s a lot of problem in the Philippines, and her move shouldn’t be exaggerated that much.

I think party loyalty or even as jhay used the term for Loren as a political prostitute is a bid deal; it is a bid issue to begin with.
For sincerity is then tarnished when someone who months ago was condemning particular Villar for graft and corrupt practices then had a change of heart and became his ally.
Therefore, principle and reason are rendered questionable and dubious for the first indication of its truthfulness which is sincerity is non-existent in this case.

Hinde naman po lumipat si Miss Loren Legarda ng partido, naging guest candidate po sya ni Manny Villar, but it doesnt mean she left her own partylist, So, i dont think dapat natin syang tawaging palipat-lipat, and sometimes, if ganon man ang nangyayari sana maunawaan rin natin ang dahilan ng isang tao… We all know what Miss Loren Legarda have had done in our country..Ang kanyang pagtulong sa mahihirap at ang kanyang pagmamahal sa ating kalikasan, so we should not judge her if sinasabi nyong palipat-liapt si Loren Legarda… This is what Mr. Manny Villar said in one interviewed:
“We share common vision for the country. Both have found common ground in our stand in leading the country. People were asking, ‘Bakit si Loren?...Bakit hindi?”
- Senator Manny Villar, 2010 Presidential Aspirant, November 2009

Hi Sandra, and thanks for the comment
As maybe I shared already, there is no problem or big deal when one politician shares a common passion or advocacy with another politician; I think it is even better. What leaves a bad taste in the mouth, is when a politician advocates the prosecution and denounces the acts of another politicians and then in the end, actually ends up having a tandem with that person she denounced. That is real bad…that is traditional politics…that is palipat-lipat, for the sake of one’s personal political glory up to the extent of even going against one’s advocacy (in this case denouncing the villar with the C-5 controversy he is embroiled with)? Tsk, tsk, tsk

Hi Claire!
Pardon me, but a quote from Villar I think tarnishes even more Loren’s image and credibility as a vice-presidential aspirant and as a politician.

I think, hinde tama na sabihan si Senator Loren Legarda na Poltical Chameleon, why because hinde po kasalan ni Senator Loren na sya ang pinag-aagawan…In my own points of view, isang mahusay na senador si Senator Loren, a good public servant, very dedicated sa kanya tungkulin, kaya ISA sya sa deserving na Maging Vice-President ng ating bansa, at isa rin dahilan kung bakit SIya kinuha ni Manny Villar.. MAlinaw na HINDE LUMIPAT O NAGPALIT NG PARTIDO SI SENATOR LEGARDA, she was a guest candidate of the NPC, bakit kailangang bigyan pa masamang article about doon? If you could read the interviewed of Senator Villar and Senator Legarda what is the reason for their tandem, we should be proud na ang kanilang adhikain at plataporma ay para sa pagtulong sa ikakaunlad ng ating bansa, pag-ahon sa kahirapan at pagbibigay pag-asa sa ating bansa. It doesn’t mean na sya ang kinuhang Vice-President magbabago na sya ng loyalty, and lalo na magbabago ang pinag-kakautangan ng loob..!!! I don’t get it.You got a wrong idea elmot! Grow up!

Thanks Sheenalady29 for your “overzealousness” for Loren Legarda.
But I think it is being mature enough that I have come to write this post about Loren being a political chameleon.
Having the same platform and advocacy with Manny Villar? Duh, even as a guest candidate, still it does not hold any morsel of being an immaculate vp candidate for Loren. She once told the senate and the people that she denounce and will prosecute Manny V’s double entry and “corruption” over the C-5 road…all of a sudden she coalesced with the man she is trying to denounce? What do you call that, a conversation on the road to Tarsus? That is a lame political candidate that only lives on political survival.
Maybe Loren needs to grow up.

@ELMOT if i were you try to make some research about Loren Legarda on the issue regarding c-5 road case of Manny Villar.
Villar came under siege because of the C-5 Road extension project issue from which he was later cleared and absolved of any shenanigans.Legarda was among those who called for an investigation when the issue first surfaced. But when the report came out and there were not even any hint of irregularity, she signed Senate Resolution 1472 with 11 other Senators clearing Villar. She was one of those who called for Villar’s resignation as Senate President exactly a year ago today, yet she has never attacked Villar personally, and now that his innocence has been established, has even built an alliance with him. “I don’t even call that criticism. In a democracy, you allow all views to come out so that we can listen to all views.” Of all candidates in the coming 2010 presidential derby, Legarda is the most qualified to be President, yet she’s running only for Vice President – and her critics call her Political chameleon. Loren Legarda, the most formidable opposition VP candidate, joins forces with an opposition presidential candidate – yet her critics call her a “political butterfly.”
It shows the extent to which her political opponents would grab straws to attack her. It shows just how scared they are. In an honest election, they have every reason to be.
