Senator Loren Legarda and a Few More Political Chameleons

Election day is getting nearer and nearer.  We may just wake up soon and it is already the day of reckoning for us, for some and for the future.  Or even wake up one day with Erap as once again the president.  Oh  my, that will be the day I will look for a tora-tora and commit a hara-kiri attack on the Presidential Palace.

And what the last few days and weeks bring us is a great opportunity for the electorate to see people elected into public office turn from green into grey, grey into yellow, green into orange while others from white into a multi-colored politician, like a true seasoned traditional public servant trying to survive the harsh and dangerous jungles and plains of Africa.  These are just previews though of many more stupid, hilarious and mind-boggling things to come.

We saw how the star came down to be liberated, bringing with her her husband who by the way gave to us the burdensome expanded value added tax-that-will-solve-our-country’s-financial-crisis years ago.  But up to now, the added tax is still hurting our pockets and worse, the country is in a bigger financial crisis.  Double-talk.

From the administration party of Lakas-Kampi-CMD of President Arroyo, Gov. Vilma Santos and husband former senator Ralph Rector jumped ship and coalesced with Noynoy Aquino’s Liberal Party for next year’s polls.  The stars are now somewhat complete:  megastar and star for all seasons.  This is an unprecedented cosmic and astronomic event happening right at our country.

It was like an apparition they both said.  Suddenly, from the darkness of night in Lipa, Batangas, a gust of cold wind blew to where they stood while they were holding their glasses of milk (remember:  drink twice a day);  and the clouds opened up with the whole powerpoint presentation on the night sky revealing to the couple slide-by-slide a mystical message only they two could decode.  And from there, they experienced a metanoia, an instant change of heart, realizing that all this time their goals for their constituents; their aspirations for the people; their solemn promise to the electorate, their noble obligation to the masses, could only be achieved by leaving their old party and join Noynoy’s bandwagon.

Ok, we can now all give them a round of applause guys.  Bravo.  And I have to activate ASAP my blog’s anti-missile defense system for all the Vilmanians who will bombard me with nukes and rocked-propelled grenades.

Not to be left behind is Sen. Loren Legarda. Playing the real hard-to-get that she is, different political camps were said to have courted her to become their vice-presidentiable; from the administration party to Villar’s Nacionalista Party.  If I know, Legarda is the one who is really trying to sell herself hard to all these political parties who are ignoring her for being a true-bloodied political chameleon.  The saving grace for me though is the thought that the song tells of a “karma” for chameleons who come and go.

Where was I?  Ok.  Lo’ and behold, Sen. Legarda is now the standard partner of Sen. Villar for 2010.  With VIllar and LEgarda tandem for 2010, the Mr. Langdon in me decoded a secret message without sweat from their team-up = VILE for 2010.

They need to feed each other.  Only days ago, some 12 senators signed up a resolution trying to dismiss the ethics case against Villar.  Guess what, Sen. Legarda is one of those signed on the document saying the case should be dropped despite the fact that no final report and recommendations were yet made of the committee that has investigated the presidentiable for the alleged wrongdoing.  And what is more astonishing is that Sen. Legarda was one of those who first stood strongly against the C-5 controversy, denouncing it as a corrupt act and abuse of power.  Well, that was months ago.  Today is a different day and amnesia is a very contagious disease among our beloved politicians; except having amnesia of their bank accounts.

They are only some.

But as they say in politics; there are no permanent friends and enemies, except permanent interests.

That is why the old wise China man who spends the whole day meditating in front of a fast food chain near our place told me to be wary of those who changes colors and easily do so, they are political chameleons; and those who tells the public that they “suddenly” realized what is wrong from right for their people, they are big fat liars.  But he said be more afraid of those who says that they spoke with God and He told them to run for president; they nuts.

I will just then take comfort on singing Karma Chameleon.
