Is there such a thing as destiny or fate? Or is it just a product of human construct to account for the lame excuse of letting someone go only to realize that you will never once again have that rare opportunity to be truly happy with him/her?
Destiny is but a phrase of the weak human heart – the dark apology for every error. The strong and virtuous admit no destiny. On earth conscience guides; in heaven God watches. And destiny is but the phantom we invoke to silence the one and dethrone the other. Edward Bulwer-Lytton
When we cannot turn back the hands of time, we can only languish in solitary silence and relish the feelings that wishes, dreams and is trying to find its way back amidst a complicated puzzle of life to the one it has long been seeking to embrace on its yearning arms. But how can one gain what has already been lost?
Let us hope that we are all preceded in this world by a love story. Bob Snyder
Maybe, only maybe, hoping for fate to usher for us another opportunity to live the lost love we left unheeded and unspoken on the hills of undying memories. And if this present life will just pass by us by living on worlds apart, we may be reunited in eternity with that person whom we so loved and adored and adorned with prayers and aspirations that only our undying fidelity will give us the unwavering strength to hope for forgiveness and togetherness.
When we lose the one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough. Maurice Maeterlinck

Hi Elmot,
I was a bit surprised with your recent posts. I have been in your blog for a number of times and all that I read were about politics. As I read along, I am thinking on how are you going to relate FATE with politics. But I ended up reading a topic about FATE alone.
They say that our fate/destiny is already written on our hands (that’s why there’s palm reading). But as time progresses, we may change our fates (does the marks on our palm change too?).
As for me, I am believing Edward.
God Bless,

Hi Madz!
Just trying to have some variation here while my blog solely about personal reflections and murmurings is not yet fixed.
My mother is a firm believer for one of this fate being written on your palm. This is such though a complicated thing…are we the one who are to draw our fate or there is already grand scheme lain ahead for us?
Nonetheless, fate could always be easily used as an excuse for our weaknesses.

Short, sweet and intense like a tryst. But then life is a but a tryst, right? To paraphrase Mark Twain, you need two things to succeed in life: ignorance and confidence.
Take heart, dear Elmot. Learn the art of experiencing eternity in a moment. and you’d be all right.

Thanks Bro! I am trying to savor and relish this fleeting feeling and paradox I am into.
I have both; ignorance and confidence that I got lost into a whirlwind of life’s unexpected surprises.

i believe in both fate and free will. life is too short to dig deep and understand the mysteries of either or both.

There is a thin line between the two and for many different personalities, belief systems and experiences, any of the two may overcome the other.
Indeed, it is not the domain anymore of human understanding to reckon the totality of the mysteries that envelope fate and free will.

Elmot, becoming emotional???? he he he kidding. I do believe fate and free will is part of life. There are things that are predetermined and there are those that you have to decide on your own.
I have posted a question with the same topic here http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2171936.aspx?p=1#2_20299854 The readers gave some good explanations.

Oh, having this rare “emo” moments Mam…hay…
Well, what complicates things is when you want to have a hand over your fate by exercising your free will but you are already constrained by so many puzzling events; and at the end of the day, all you can say is that, maybe this is my fate.

Even Edward Bulwer-Lytton did not deny that the word “destiny” exists. However, he has his own interpretation/definition of the word (destiny). I am not sure if he heard the song “you are my destiny!” or “your the answer to my lonely prayer…” But I seem to agree and/or relate the idea “destiny is but the phantom we invoke to silence the one and dethrone the other.” DEPENSA MEKANISMO! Yap, agree! To justify my own existence.

He has his own definition maybe taking particular attention to human experiences that uses fate as a scapegoat for their lukewarmness and failures in life.

I believe that our future depends on two things – 50% free will and 50% fate.
There are some people who, whatever they do and even how hard they strive to achieve their goals, they just can’t reach it.
However, there are people who, probably we shall say “lucky”, that even though they did not exerted much efforts as what others are doing, they are fated to achieve their goals.
I know a lot of people don’t believe in psychics or anything of some sort. But in my case, I regularly consult one. Perhaps, one every quarter. I want my “fate” to happen and she is guiding me towards the right direction of “what might happen” as a consequence of my actions.

Wow, that sounds interesting Bro. My mother is a big fan of psychic and fortune telling and all.
Though I don’t really much believe on fortune-telling and psychics for I strongly believe in human volition; I still can’t help but think that in each one of us, there is a good path that lies ahead. Only that we need to realize and tune in ourselves; our dispositions, thinking and actions in order to have a harmony with a path that has been laid down for us.

Hi Sandeep!
Wow, that is one of my mantra, most probably because of so much inspiration gotten from Paulo Coelho. “The whole cosmos will conspire in order for your aspirations to come to life”.

This is too emotional for me. We come to think of a destiny only when we are in love but when we lost the love we had, it’s something we could call fate. Life’s like that.

I could agree no less Mam Marlene.
This is the place where hopeless romantics try to hide their weakness by seeking out fate as the ultimate source of failure.
