Why not run instead?  Some people whispering on his ears.

Despite the horn for a moral revolution has already been blown in the midst of unending corruption scandals, there are still groups of people who certainly would rather want Chief Justice Reynato Puno to take on his advocacy for good governance and better nation ruled by morally upright leaders, by taking on the challenge of running for the presidency.  This to say that there is no other person who could bring the long-been-needed change in this nation especially in the government with a high standard of moral values than he himself who strongly pushes for it.

But the Chief Justice has already quelled speculations and even instigations for him to take on the tedious road of the presidential race and shifted the challenge instead to each and every Filipino.

Yesterday, he led the national launch of the group that would embody and push for a moral revolution he has long been espousing.    Moral Force Movement (MMF) is currently composed of 1,000 members coming from the ranks of the studentry, civic groups, academe and volunteers. Promising itself to be at forefront especially on the ensuring a clean and honest upcoming May 2010 national elections and developing transformational leaders, it hopes address the budding problems of corruption and other ills.

But why is it that some Filipinos were too unexcited with the moral revolution compared to the buzz that the upcoming movie of John Lloyd Cruz, Luis Manzano and Vilma Santos generates?

Some camps obviously received it with cold treatment.  First, because they know that their selfish interests would be jeopardize by this moral revolution and second because they know that many citizens including these greedy bastards are not too lazy to take up the challenge.   And on the latter most probably because many of us are just waiting for our “political messiah” to come on our midst, assume the position of the president of the republic and solve all the ills of this nation; and live happily ever after.

This is the same kind of sentiments that the people of Israel were cultivating inside them; that when the son of a carpenter named Jesus of Nazareth told the crowds to give to Ceasar what is Ceasar’s and give to God that which belongs to God, they started to get angry and frustrated at Him and to the preachings of “change and salvation” he so promises to bring.  To make the long story short, they crucified Him, still not totally understanding the “moral revolution and salvation” he wants to give.

A big number of us are already so tired of going to the streets, protest and fight for our right for a just and better nation that we just want to have an instant leader who could cure all our problems; answers and miracles rightly served on our plate.  Take a survey and I bet many would rather want to stroll on the malls!  To this, Justice Puno warns us instead “not to stay neutral…and not let apathy to have the last word.” But the greatest enemy that he said we should be fighting could neither be seen on the streets nor on the government edifices, but that which whispers from within, that “is but ourselves.”

This is a tall order knowing as the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) admittedly said on its last letter that corruption and the decay of moral values undoubtedly has already seep in through the cracks of the Filipino family.

I can totally understand therefore why a family of 10 with unemployed parents with no food at the table will just shrug off the idea of moral revolution and embrace the traditional patronage politics.  Certainly many of them will just crucify this and yell to stop the preaching and bring is some bread to fill in their empty stomachs.

This clarion call challenging each and everyone of us is a hard battle to fight;  for we will start first not to blame somebody else as many of us usually do and second, try to look at ourselves and maybe also blame ourselves for our misgivings.

Are you excited on this moral revolution movement by Chief Justice Puno? How far are you willing to take up the challenge?  Will this “moral revolution” significantly bring the change we so long been waiting?
