I was still somber and on a reflective state after seeing the great outpour of love, gratitude and honor to Former President Corazon Aquino on yesterday’s historic funeral.
However, as I was browsing over posts and images of the funeral over Facebook and other social networking sites, I got one of the greatest shock of my life with blood rushing up to my brain. Saw this post by Ms. Joy Parohinog of Ms. Happy Feraren’s experience of a politican taking advantage like a hayena of Mrs. Cory Aquino’s funeral. Guess who? Sen. Jamb Madrigal who most recently announced her candidacy for the presidency shamelessly took advantage of the funeral of Mrs. Aquino to do her most stupid way of campaigning thinking that the Filipino masses are nothing but bunches of morons. Here, take our jabs and power shots Jamboy! Pray that your bracelets of beads could save you from our wrath.
Happy Feraren: Shame on you Jamby Madrigal!
Now that we’ve remembered, relived and recreated the spirit of ’86 let’s make sure this yellow ribbon doesn’t get tangled up in other people’s political campaigns.
Subtle electioneering IN A FUNERAL?!?! SHAME ON YOU. Do not ride on Cory’s wave to pursue your vested interest. The people who waited in the streets weren’t there to see you! The revolution doesn’t belong to you, phony politician, it belongs to the people. And what makes you think you could get away with such a dirty trick? Cory’s lasting impression of sincerity, humility and honesty is now the benchmark of what leaders are supposed to be. You think people don’t see through you? The respect we have for Cory is not something you acquire with falsity (or through endorsement from Judy Ann Santos) it is earned. How dare you pose as someone offering sympathy to the Aquino family while you think about the votes you’re going to get come election time.
As I waited for the cortege (news networks’ new favourite word) along the South Super Highway, my mom and I bought 2 yellow umbrellas from this street vendor who was also selling nuts. And then as we paid, he pulled out something from his pocket – a yellow beaded bracelet nicely packed in a small clear plastic bag. Upon handing it over to us, he said: “Eto o, bonus para sa inyo.”Of course my mom and I were pleased and were all “awww how sweet.”Until I actually looked at the bracelet and saw a little tag with the name and photo of Jamby Madrigal.
I called out to him and asked, “O bakit may Jamby Madrigal itong bracelet na ito” and when I looked at the vendor for an answer he had already walked away.
Maybe an hour before this incident, I saw her car passing by the growing sea of people. Window open, flashing the L sign and strangely enough, a cameraman in front filming the people. My mom started shouting “Transparencyyyy!” and then I looked at her asking if I could put up my middle finger and my mom looked at me and said I should just shout transparency, accountability or good governance. In other words “BOOOOOOOO!!!!” And then the two of us just started shouting BOO JAMBY!!!
I am utterly disgusted by you, Ms.Madrigal. And to you other filthy politicians, behave yourselves because we are all watching you, even if you’re supposedly Cory’s “favorite” mayor. Genuine democracy is People Power and everything Ninoy and Cory stood for. It also means that now, whenever there’s a phony claiming he or she is there to protect Cory’s legacy, we will be able to speak up and act with the same fearless fervour we had before.
You know sometimes I wish I could march in the government offices with a magical broom that can sweep away all the dirty politicians we have in this country. A giant clean up, but this time not just for the environment but for our government. Haha, imagine if we could really do that? I’m already writing down the names of the people I’d attack first with my magic walis!
So, before you file for candidacy (a bit too late though in this case) think again. Actually, good luck! The people have remembered.
Pardon my French they way Conrado de Quiros says it, but this one “damn shameless politician” on our midst! What was she actually thinking? I thought all the demons were already exorcised during the high mass at the Cathedral?
See you next elections Jamboy, we will hack you out; let us see who is the real fool between you and Filipino nation. Prepare yourself for retirement making all those beaded bracelets. Pwe!

i hope that the filipino people will realize that this lady (jamby madrigal)is the complete opposite of cory aquinos dream for the philippines .i can describe her as similar to gloria arroyo.d ko nga maintindihan kung bakit naging senador yan.damidami pa namang ibang deserving sya pa ang nakapasok.

I am pretty sure that the Filipino nation has realized already the stark difference between what this sad politician has done and that of the life of the our dear former president. And I am pretty sure that the Filipino people will know how to repay such kind of shameless acts.
Maybe not yet now, but that time will surely come.
Bakit pa sya nakapasok bilang senador? Hmmm…because most people voted for her…that is why….

Conceding to the fact that it was done in bad taste, it is quite absurd though to judge Jamby based on the lapse of judgment of her campaign volunteers.
I personally know Jamby and I have worked with her last elections. Though she didn’t run that time, out of generosity, she financed an NGO doing a quickcount. Self-serving? As a political scientist trained by the best political mentors in the country’s national university, I beg to disagree. If Jamby were to use the financing of the NGO for her personal political gain, it won’t bring back a positive return of investment.
I am not saying that it was all right to distribute those beads; what I am saying is that there could be a high probability of Jamby not directly knowing what her campaign personnel was up to. I’ve experienced a national campaign first hand, and most of the time, the political strategist has the prerogative to by-pass the candidate.
Just my two cents worth.
DISCLAIMER: I do not work for Jamby Madrigal or any other politician as of this moment. However, I am a political scientist by profession. I personally know a lot of people, influential, famous, or otherwise, due to my frequent attendance in the high society and political scenes.

I guess politicians sometimes have that defining moment. In this case, the act was so despicable to warrant so much negative reaction from the public. Being a political scientist, you must be aware of the power of public perception and how simple errors in judgement can ruin a candidate’s ambition. Note up to this time Jamby has not denied the act. Which means they are still developing the spin…

@Anonymous: Thanks for joining the discussion. She has not actually said anything about the issue yet, and for sure as you said, they are still may trying to web something out of it to have a good excuse.
I totally agree that any slight error is already magnified so many times on the public eye. However, I would have not been gotten so pissed off by this stunt of the Senator when she did this (or as pinoygossipboy said that it could also be the tactics of her political strategists) if had she only did this outside the funeral of the late president with her trailing behind the motorcade.
If she has distributed this freebie with or without her knowledge on any occassion like the birthday maybe of Manny Villar (ahahhhaha! they are mortal enemies!) I would have not gotten this pissed off.

Jamby might try to wiggle her way out with the bracelet thing but there’s this other incident recounted by Happy Feraren that she would find hard to deny:
“Maybe an hour before this incident, I saw her car passing by the growing sea of people. Window open, flashing the L sign and strangely enough, a cameraman in front filming the people. My mom started shouting “Transparencyyyy!” and then I looked at her asking if I could put up my middle finger and my mom looked at me and said I should just shout transparency, accountability or good governance. Thanks for actually giving the discussion here a new turn and perspective PGB…your opinion will certainly make the discussion here more interesting and in-depth.
I totally respect your acquaintance with the senator and though having a some probability that this incident is “maybe” out of the initiatives of her political strategists and advisers; the senator is still held culpable. It is never an excuse for me personally not to assail the woman on that beaded bracelet just because she has no knowledge of such stunt or it was totally the acts of her trusted aides without her permission.
For me it is like saying then that Ignacio Bunye admitted to the public that there is actually two versions of the Hello Garci scandal…and later on retracted saying that what he said does not merit anything for it has not gotten any personal knowledge and approval of the President. Therefore, we should not throw any jab at the President.
It has always been the missing dictum in public service and administration especially on high officials of our government: accountability and command responsibility…so in the end it is still saving one skin. Whether she has personal knowledge of it or not, she is still held accountable…unless the picture on that bead is her campaign strategist, eheheh.

Just as I thought, it was a mere black propaganda against Jamby just like her satirical blog.
Norma Deuna, media person for Jamby has denied distributing that bracelet. Another point, the bracelet bears the same photo Jamby used in her FAILED senatorial bid in 2001. If I were her political strategist, I will NEVER use that same material. In fact, I would ask for a new photo shoot. Also, the bracelet does not look Madrigal-esque enough.
To be fair with the person who was in charge of ruining Jamby’s presidential bid by distributing that bracelet, that was awesome. I would love to commend him for staging such a very dramatic trashy political campaign (as a political scientist myself though and not as a moral person).

@pinoygossipboy: Thanks alot doing some extra work on this post
Well, if they did not do it, then as you said the one who did this thing knows his craft real well. Who did it? Who has an ill will against Jamby? The Villar camp? This is the new twist here.
But the bottomline still; there was an act of disrespect on the solemn moment that day.
Bilib ako, you can really fuse gossips and politics, eheheh!

It seems to me that if a candidate is unaware of what her campaign staff is up to, and cannot stop them, then she would be hard-pressed to lead a country.

I think if we are to believe that this incident was initiated by her people without her knowing it…it will be a very very grave point against her leadership. If she can’t even control only a few people doing nasty and irreverent things and acts, how can she even govern a whole nation properly?

pinoygossipboy has a point. but then again, as a political candidate, especially one running for President, you have to know and have control over even small things like these because even small things can ruin your campaign or your political career.
nevertheless, shame on whoever was behind this activity. they didn’t have the decency to respect the funeral of the late Pres. Corazon Aquino.

It is a blatant propaganda, for or against Jamby Madrigal, we do not know. Poor judgment if coming from her part, and a good move if coming from detractors.

Thanks for the participation on the discussion Ronald! You also have a good point. If it was a propaganda against Jamby, then those enemies of hers has succeeded.
However, the next important question to ask is: who are those people who wants to pull her down thus could be held liable on this act?
On that question, I can’t think of any persons who wants to pull her down because she has just recently fielded her candidacy for the presidency. I think she is not a force to reckon with during the 2010 elections that would warrant a smear and aggressive campaign from her detractors using this tactic. And if it was her detractors, she should have shouted over the media to condemn this one.

I’m really not that concerned about this sly move by Jamby’s, regardless whether she had personal knowledge of it or not, or her entire “campaign/bid” for the presidency.
Simply because I know that she will not win. Winning a Senate seat is one thing, but the Presidency in this country is a totally new ball game.

Whaaat? She’s running for president? I don’t personally know her and I first saw her being interviewed on TV during the Bicol mudslide in 2007, teary eyed, with mud smear all over her clothes saying she needed to be there personally to help the victims even if she’s not feeling well.
You can instantly see her insincerity & I instantly dislike her – the usual media whore.
And doing that during Cory’s cortege, is really stupid.
